Here's what everyone is talking about at the water cooler today. 

Overtime

The NFL is cancelling its final Sunday Night Football games because of New Year’s Eve. Sports have tried and failed to win over viewers on NYE and the NFL isn’t willing to gamble with ratings. They moved all of the night games to earlier in the day on Sunday to send you off into 2018 with an action-packed football Sunday.  So kind.

Sideline stat

The NBA (National Basketball Association) had a very Merry Christmas. Their traditional slate of Christmas Day basketball games saw a 39% increase in viewership. Apparently an additional 39% of people wanted to avoid their families on Christmas Day.

Coaches’ corner

Old guys rule in the case of the New England Patriots (NFL). James Harrison, 39, is famous not only for his defense but spending $300,000 a year to stay fit. He was released by his long-time team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and picked up by the Patriots, which already boasts the oldest record breaking quarterback in Tom Brady (40 years old).
