Women’s World Cup
The US Women's National Team advanced to the round of 16, also known as the Knockout Round. They will face Sweden, a tough competitor, on Sunday at 5 am ET. You're going to have to wake up early to watch that game. Sweden is going to be tough. And if the US loses, they're out and will not achieve their goal of a third title in a row.
Keep an eye on underdogs Morocco, South Africa and Nigeria; they are the first three African countries to qualify for a women's World Cup knockout stage. Morocco has already made history as the first team from an Arabic-speaking country to qualify for the Women's World Cup. Then there's Jamaica, whose program folded at one point for lack of funding, and they made it to the World Cup thanks to crowdfunding.
Tom Brady’s New Gig
Tom Brady added another sports team to his portfolio - England Football Club Birmingham City. After Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhnney purchased Wrexham FC, buying a European soccer team has been en vogue. It's also been a trend for recently retired NFL stars because JJ Watt and his professional soccer-playing wife, Kelia, purchased the English soccer club Burnley FC. Tom Brady already has quite a resume of team ownership. He is a minority owner in the Las Vegas Raiders (NFL) and the Las Vegas Aces (WNBA). He has Birmingham City FC, Major League Pickleball team - the Las Vegas Night Owls, and he is also a team owner for the E1 Series or electric boat racing.

Weekend Preview: Messi Mania, Golf vs. Toads + “Fun Grandma”

So much happening in the world of sports besides the box office fanfare this weekend.
Messi's debut with MLS (Major League Soccer)
Today could be one of the most monumental days in US soccer. Lionel Messi makes his debut for David Beckham's Miami FC team. While we're so excited to see Messi in that iconic pink jersey, but is he as popular as Taylor Swift? The tickets to his debut match cost about $712 on average. If you've ever looked at Taylor Swift concert tickets, you realize it is a deal.
The Open Championship (Golf)
Will Rory McIlroy take away his sixth top-10 finish in a row? Let's see what the Natterjack Toads say about this. The rare Natterjack Toad inhabits the grounds of the golf course, and the groundskeepers have been trained to ensure the safety of the Toads so that spectators or golfers do not harm them. Golf has a rule that you play it where it lies, and if the ball lands next to an alligator or in thick grass, you have to figure out how to hit it. In this case, referees will assist if a ball falls near one of those toads.
Women's World Cup (Soccer)
Let's talk Women's World Cup. It started this week, and the US Women's Team will take on the team from Vietnam on Friday evening for their first game of the Women's World Cup. They are trying to go for a historic back-to-back-to-back win. Veterans Alex Morgan and self-proclaimed "fun grandma" Megan Rapinoe lead the team. Keep an eye out for Trinity Rodman, the daughter of Dennis Rodman. She's one of the young talented members of the group.

Jacksonville Jaguars (NFL) strength coach Kevin Maxson came out gay, and that's a first for a male coach in major men's US professional sports.
In F1 (Formula 1), originally intending to take the year off, one of the best personalities in the sport, Daniel Ricciardo, is back on the track racing this weekend. Let's hope that he gets a win so we can see him do a shoey, which is when he takes a drink of his champagne out of his dirty race shoe.
It is the final weekend for the Tour de France, so watch for that in our Monday update.

Weekend Preview: Wimbledon Greatness, Vegas Turns Orange + Book Your Ticket To New Zealand

Is there anything better than a summer weekend? How about one with great conversation? That’s where the Weekend Preview Edition comes in.
Wimbledon
The women's final is set for Saturday, and we have Marketa Vondaroesva from the Czech Republic, the first unseated woman to reach the Wimbledon final since Billie Jean King in 1963. She will take on No. 6 Ons Jabeur (Tunisian), the highest-ranking African and Arab player. in WTA and ATP ranking histories.
On Sunday, Novak Djokovic (Serbia) is going for his record-setting 24th grand slam (passing Serena Williams) and hoping to land his fifth straight Wimbledon title. If that’s not enough, he’ll be one step closer to securing the calendar grand slam (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open) if he wins the US Open next month.
Djokovic, 36, will play 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz, the current No. 1 ranked player. He’s going for his second career major championship.

WNBA (WOmen’s National Basketball Association) All-Star Game
It’s the third time Las Vegas is hosting the WNBA All-Star Game. It starts on Friday with the skills competition. And, of course, Saturday is the big game with captains A’ja Wilson from the Las Vegas Aces and Brianna Stewart from the New York Liberty. The Jordan brand will be making its first appearance on the uniforms for the WNBA.
The big news for the WNBA is that the viewership is continuing to grow and, for the first part of the season, has been increasing. Tune into our social media this weekend for more on the WNBA All-Star Game.
F1 (Formula One)
Let's switch over to Formula One. Originally intending to take the entire year off, one of the best personalities in Formula One returns to the track: Danithat'sciardo. He hasn't raced in a year, but expect a “shoey” if he does win. That's when he drinks a cocktail out of his sweaty race shoe. He will replace Nyck de Vries, who was cut after ten races into his rookie season with Red Bull. If you want a great podcast, listen to the Smartless Podcast interview with Daniel Ricciardo. It will give you great insight into that world. Let's talk Let'stle bit about golf and celebrities.
Golf
The American Century Championship Celebrity Tournament will take place this weekend in Lake Tahoe, where athletes and celebrities combine to play in a rowdy tournament near Lake Tahoe's shores. Tony Romo is the favorite to win.
Summer getaway - Women’s World Cup style
And last but certainly not least, book a ticket to New Zealand if you're looking for a summer getaway. FIFA is giving away 20,000 free tickets for World Cup games in the four cities in New Zealand that are hosting games. There has been a slow sales pace in New Zealand, so they are giving them away. Co-hosts Australians have snapped up most of the 1M tickets sold so far, with their Matildas as contenders to win the tournament.
