The award, which the nation’s highest civilian honor, is being bestowed upon the golfer after his decade-long comeback to win this year’s Masters. It was one wet and sloppy race at the Kentucky Derby but that didn’t stop celebrities and athletes alike from walking the red carpet donning some serious Derby-inspired fashion. VOGUE
Sideline stat
For the first time in Derby history, the horse that crossed the finish line first did not win the Derby. Maximum Security originally finished first but after a lengthy debate, he was disqualified for a violation on the track. The eventual winner, Country House, started the race with 65-1 odds to win (meaning if you bet $1, you’d win $65), making him the 2nd-longest shot to win the Kentucky Derby in the history of the race. You might remember the Carolina Hurricanes’ (NHL – National Hockey League) regular season postgame skits. Broadcaster Don Cherry, who is known for his absolutely hideous jackets and ties, didn’t like the stunts one bit, calling the team “a buncha jerks.” Now that the team has been killing it in the playoffs, their attendance numbers are up. Cherry has been referring to the new fan base as “front-running fans,” saying they’re jumping on the bandwagon. GRUMPY OLD MEN ON ICE
