What's Ahead In July

What’s Ahead In July?

It’s July. You’re hot and sweaty and the last thing you want to do is talk about the weather to a stranger at a pool party. But then the clouds part and you realize you have so much more to talk about now that you’ve spent a few minutes with us.

Wimbledon

The Brits know how to throw a white party better than P-Diddy (is that his name now)? Well they’ve certainly had enough experience, since Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world. Don’t worry they’ve thought of everything including a dress code for players (all white), a trained hawk to keep other birds from making those whites not so white and of course, men and women receive the same size winner’s check.

Want to know a little more about this classy tournament that takes place from July 1 - 14? READ ON

Tour de France

Break out the bike shorts because the most grueling ride with the best scenery is back (July 6 – 28). Those who can’t do, drink and that’s precisely what the bikers in the Tour de France used to do to numb the pain in the race. (It’s no longer permitted). Wondering how they pee during those 23 days and 2,000+ miles? (You were, don’t lie). They pull over and pull down their pants just like the rest of us. But if that’s not an option, they pee down their leg.

Don’t they make some serious cash for winning this race? No. To find out that and a little something extra about the race, you can read more. TELL ME MORE

X Games

The X Games are like the Olympics only with less pomp and circumstance, more weed and events that you’re more likely to break your neck participating in. The summer games are back in Minneapolis (August 1-4) and skateboarding and BMX are the featured events on the menu. But did you know that the ESPN created event, was first held in Rhode Island. The games have increased in popularity and last year travelled to Australia for the first ever X Games Sydney. (They start in August you say. Correct, but we’re making sure you’re prepped and ready to go on August 1st like a boss).

Sit back, relax and learn a little more about the international gathering that brings action sport athletes together. BRING IT ON

None of those options whet your appetite?

How about the worst versions of the national anthem? That’ll catch their attention. (We’re not responsible if you decide to sing).

Let’s turn this summer love into an ongoing relationship. Keep up with us every week on the fastest four minutes in sports, i.e. our podcast or three times a week in your inbox.
