The NFL kicked off the season last night with the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs defeating the Houston Texans. The teams orchestrated a show of unity before the game by uniting arms during a moment of silence. The act of unity was met by boos from some of the 17,000 fans in attendance, which Texans J.J. In the battle of the moms in the U.S. Open semifinals, Victoria Azarenka ousted Serena Williams for a spot in the finals. It is Azarenka’s first Grand Slam final since giving birth to her son. She will face Naomi Osaka, the highest paid female athlete in the world, in the finals on Saturday.
On the men’s side, for the first time ever, the eventual Grand Slam champion will be one born in the 90s. With the “big three” (Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal) out, the pathway to the championship was open to new blood. CHANGING OF THE GUARD?

In the midst of the NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) playoffs, driver Bubba Wallace made a shocking announcement. He will be leaving Richard Petty Racing. Wallace, whose name became a headline after a noose was found in his garage, did not make the playoffs this year. Owner and former race car driver Richard Petty has been outspoken and supportive of Wallace, who is the only Black NASCAR driver, in his quest for equality in racing that included working with NASCAR to ban the confederate flag from races.
