It's been said that sports are the highest high and the lowest low. Here's to making sure your weekend conversation is on the up and up.

College Basketball

This could be our favorite story about the college basketball season starting this week. University of Texas head coach Chris Beard promised the students a party if they sold out the student section for their first home game. As college students do when promised free cocktails, they obliged. Not only did the Longhorns win their season opener, but Tuesday’s crowd also marked the fourth-largest crowd for a home opener in 45 years. IF IT'S FREE, IT'S FOR ME

PS: Here's what you need to know about the college basketball season in 30 seconds.

Short and Sweet

  • South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley spreads the love amongst black female basketball coaches, sending them each a piece of the net from her team's 2017 championship win.

  • Here's to hoping that Indianapolis Colts (NFL) Carson Wentz's second child isn't born on game day because he's not missing work.

  • Ole Miss fan Katy Perry is a legend on the set of ESPN College GameDay after her 2014 appearance, but will she be the surprise guest this weekend in Mississippi?

Before We Go

Race into the weekend like Julia Hawkins. The 105-year-old set a world record in the 100-meter dash. She's the first woman 105 or older to run the event, but this is not her first rodeo. She has set more than one world record, all after the age of 100. DYNAMO
