It's a brand new week, and we're here to get you up to speed with all the exciting happenings in the world of sports. Whether you're a die-hard fan or just dipping your toes into the sporting waters, there's something for everyone to discuss. So grab your coffee, get cozy, and dive into this week's sports conversation starters.
Baseball Buzz: A Game-Changing Interview
While the San Francisco Giants didn't make it to the playoffs this year, they're making their own headlines. They've granted an interview to Alyssa Nakken, a Giants assistant coach, for the head coaching position – a first for a woman in Major League Baseball. This is a significant milestone; we can't wait to see where this leads.
The road toward the World Series continues for The Houston Astros and Texas Rangers (the Rangers are up 1-0 in this five-game series). The Arizona Diamondbacks take on the Philadelphia Phillies starting tonight in the NLCS.
WNBA (WOmen’s National Basketball Association) Drama: Liberty's Stand and Aces' Setback
We've got a nail-biter in the WNBA Finals. The New York Liberty defended their home turf against the Las Vegas Aces in Game 3, but the Aces are still up 2-1 in the best-of-five series. The Aces sustained a notable injury with Aces' point guard and defending finals MVP, Chelsea Gray, going out of the game. It's looking pretty serious, and her return is uncertain. Game 4 is Wednesday at 8 pm ET.
NFL (National Football League) Adventures: Surprises and Selfies
It's been a rollercoaster of a season in the NFL, and we love every twist and turn. This weekend, we all collectively gasped at the pictures of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift holding hands after a date night and surprise appearances on “Saturday Night Live.” But after week six, no team remains undefeated. The New York Jets beat the Philadelphia Eagles for the first time in franchise history, ending their perfect season. The Jets might've found inspiration in their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, who's miraculously back on the field just weeks after a massive Achilles surgery. (The San Francisco 49ers also lost their undefeated streak).
Now, let's talk about the touchdown celebration of the week. The crown goes to Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins. He pulled off a jaw-dropping selfie in the middle of a backflip in the end zone. It's a move worth watching, and we're eager to see if the league fines him for this epic celebration.
Weekend Laughs: Coach Prime on “SNL”
Finally, a bit of laughter to wrap up the update. Keenan Thompson made us chuckle as Coach Prime on “Saturday Night Live's” Weekend Update. If you need a good laugh, click here to head over to SNL's Instagram page to catch the sketch.
And before we let you go, don't forget to check out our Super Fan sweatshirt collection at lastnightsgame.com. We have them in all your favorite team colors to keep you cozy and stylish as you cheer for your favorite athletes.
We hope you have a fantastic week ahead, filled with victories on and off the field. Stay strong, stay passionate, and don't be afraid to break some barriers, just like Alyssa Nakken.
