The world is feeling a void this morning with the end of the the Michael Jordan documentary “Last Dance.” It kept non-sports fans and sports fans alike on the edge of their seats, even though we all knew how it would end. One story that surprised many last night was the tale about how Michael Jordan was poisoned by a local pizzeria in Salt Lake City while the Chicago Bulls were in town playing the Utah Jazz in the NBA Finals. Yesterday’s “Driving Relief” match between four PGA (Professional Golfers Association) golfers was a huge success. Not only did the four players - Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Matthew Wolff - practice social distancing while carrying their own clubs (no caddies allowed), they raised $5.5 million for the CDC Foundation and the American Association for Nurses. It also gave golf fans got their fix to hold them over until the season starts back up next month. FOR THE WIN

NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) is back in a big way with Kevin Harvick winning the first race post-quarantine. His “Real Heroes 400” victory was his 50th career win. It was bittersweet as he honored Dr. Joshua Hughes, an emergency medicine physician in the Charlotte area who is on the frontlines fighting covid. Drivers will race Wednesday night on the same track in Darlington. Then they’ll race the same track once again over Memorial Day weekend. DRIVING HOPE

NASCAR returns this weekend with the “Real Heroes 400." Through a collaboration with NASCAR, FOX Sports and the teams, each driver’s name will be replaced on the car with the name of an individual healthcare worker who is currently battling COVID. Another fighter hitting the track is Ryan Newman, who was involved in a horrific, fiery crash in February at the Daytona 500. Golf will resume this weekend with PGA (Professional Golfers Association) golfers Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson teeing off against their colleagues Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff. The goal of the match is to raise money for COVID relief with team McIlroy/Johnson playing for the American Nurses Foundation and team Fowler/Wolff, the CDC Foundation. The winning team will have a chance to earn anywhere from $50,000-$500,000 per hole for all 18 holes. GOLF FOR GOOD

It was a good week for University of Florida Gators alumni. NFL player turned baseball player, Tim Tebow received a promotion in the New York Mets minor leagues (MLB) and sports reporter Erin Andrews walked down the aisle. Not to be outdone, the Gators’ baseball team won their first ever national championship, defeating LSU (Louisiana State University) last night.
COACHES’ CORNER
Since it’s baseball season, here are two universal superstitions you should know about in the game.
Ball players do not step on the foul lines (the white lines that run down the first and third baseline) when entering/exiting the field for fear of bad luck.
Never discuss a no-hitter or perfect game while it’s in progress. (A no-hitter means no offensive player gets a hit and a perfect game means no offensive player gets on base). Don’t be like Martha Stewart whose tweet allegedly jinxed a New York Yankees perfect game earlier in the season.
