Boxing
Arguably the biggest sporting event of the weekend, Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. brought the star power and the entertainment value. But the boxing…maybe not so much. The 16-minute fight between the two 50+-year-olds was dominated by Tyson but the judges ruled it a draw at the end. Tyson was very chill in the post-fight interview and later we found out why. Tyson admitted he smoked weed before the fight. IN THE AIR TONIGHT
Overtime
Women everywhere rejoiced when Sarah Fuller stepped foot on the football field for Vanderbilt on Saturday. Fuller became the first woman to play in a Power Five college football game. (The Power Five conferences are the biggest, highest-powered conferences in college football). Praises from legends Billie Jean King and Sue Bird were just a few of the messages of support and excitement that flooded social media. IN IT TO WIN IT
In other progressive news, Callie Brownson, the chief of staff for the Cleveland Browns (NFL - National Football League), stepped into an interim role and into the history books yesterday. She became the first woman to coach an NFL position group during a regular-season game. She filled the role as the tight end coach because TEs coach Drew Petzing did not travel with the team for Sunday's game due to the birth of his first child Saturday morning. CONGRATS ALL AROUND
Sideline stat
The San Francisco 49ers (NFL) are homeless after a new COVID ban by Santa Clara County (the county the stadium is located in) that bans all contact sports for three weeks – including professional football. The team found out about the ban the same way the rest of us did – via a news conference. Luckily, they were on their way to play in Los Angeles but the ban doesn’t bode well for the team who will need to find another location – tentatively Arizona – to practice and play. A HEADS UP WOULD’VE BEEN NICE
Coaches’ corner
The scariest moment of the weekend was a crash in the F1 (Formula One) race in Bahrain. Driver Roman Grosjean somehow walked away from a crash that split his car in two. Like something out of an action movie, Grosjean jumped out of his fireball of a car while being sprayed by a crew armed with fire extinguishers. TOO HOT TO HANDLE

1. Remember when toilet papering a house was something you did to your worse enemy? Not at Auburn University. After a win, fans toilet paper the oaks on Toomer's Corner on campus. This tradition, that started in 1972, was stopped for three years after an Alabama fan poisoned the trees, but now it’s back. Do you think desperate college students clean it up afterward to stock their bathrooms? TWO-PLY PARTY
2. A tradition at Murray State since the late 70s, a horse nicknamed Racer One runs a lap around the field at home games after a touchdown. This tradition also comes to you from the school where after couples DTR, they hang their shoes on the Shoe Tree for luck. SOLE MATES
3. After their rival Georgia Tech discontinued their annual game, Clemson Tigers fans hit back with their wallets. They spent $2 bills stamped with the team’s signature orange tiger paw logo all over Atlanta. This 40-year tradition still remains, with Clemson fans paying with said $2 bills when traveling to away games. WAIT, SOMEONE CARRIES CASH?
4. Florida State University began a “sod cemetery” back in 1962. The team would bring back grass from their opponent’s field after a win. But now there are new rules in place. The Seminoles must be underdogs or the victory must be in a championship or bowl game to warrant a sod funeral. REST IN PEACE
5. A tradition nearly 100 years in the making is arriving via boat for a Washington Huskies football game. Then fans relive their spring break by boatgating. They party on boats and like any other tailgate there are ping pong tables, grills, TVs and of course plenty to drink. BUT WILL THERE BE SKINNY DIPPING?

2. While everyone expects the defending Super Bowl Champions, the New England Patriots, to do well this season, it’s the Cleveland Browns who are raising eyebrows. The team that went winless two seasons ago has set the bar high this season and could be one to beat, thanks to second year quarterback Baker Mayfield. THE SKY’S THE LIMIT
3. After some controversy around her Sunday Night Football song, Carrie Underwood has teamed up with Joan Jett to sing the show’s opener. For the first time in 14 years, the video for the opening song was shot inside an NFL stadium – Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons. 4. While you might think the most important people on the field are the guys in the helmets, it’s a little more black and white than that. With the team’s futures in their hands, the referees, and their game changing decision making minds, are only part-time employees. As part of a labor dispute between the NFL and the NFL Referees Association, all refs will be considered part-time until further notice.
