When the unthinkable happens. The Washington Capitals are NHL Champions. The team, which capitalized on a 3-1 lead in the series against the Vegas Golden Knights, hoisted the Stanley Cup last night for the first time in franchise history. The playoff MVP and one of hockey’s best Alex Ovechkin, helped break the 44-year curse for the Washington, D.C. franchise. MAKING HISTORY

Overtime

Things are looking rosy for the nation’s capital. Not only did the city win its first Stanley Cup but now the Washington Nationals (MLB – Major League Baseball) are celebrating tomorrow’s National Rosé Day in a big way. They’ll be serving frosé (of course) at a pop-up rosé garden. Fans can also buy tickets in the special “Rosé All Gameday” section and receive a can of rosé with their ticket purchase. CHEERS TO THAT

In case you needed another reason to don a big hat and drink rosé tomorrow, Justify will take the track at the Belmont Stakes hoping to become the lucky 13th winner of the rarest feat in sports, the Triple Crown. He would be only the second horse to win the Triple Crown in 40 years. (American Pharaoh won in 2015). GO PONIES GO!

Golden State Warriors fans are about to go loco and it’s not only because their team is one win away from winning another NBA (National Basketball Association) championship. Thanks to the Warriors win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road earlier this week, everyone in America will get free Doritos Locos Tacos from Taco Bell on June 13th. What to watch

Last year’s U.S. Open Champion, American Sloane Stephens, is eying a win at yet another grand slam tournament, the French Open. NBA (National Basketball Association)

When it’s good to see an old friend. We may have seen this matchup before (or for the fourth time in a row) but the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors did not disappoint in game one of the NBA finals last night. LeBron James had a record night, setting his team up for the win. In the last seconds, the Cavs' J.R. Smith thought his team was winning when they were tied and held the ball, sending the game into overtime. The Cavs eventually lost in overtime. GAME NOTES

When you're trying to be a trendsetter. If you thought the internet was hard on J.R. Smith for his late game blunder (see above), they were equally as harsh on King James, who arrived to the game in a suit jacket with shorts combo. That’s a whole lot of leg. PICS

Overtime

Some of football’s best (NFL – National Football League) now have new titles to put on the back of their jerseys – M.D. Both Green Bay Packers' Aaron Rodgers (also dating Danica Patrick) and Houston Texans' J.J. Watt were awarded with honorary doctorates this week at separate college graduation ceremonies. Dr. Watt also gave a passionate commencement speech about what he learned from Hurricane Harvey, encouraging the grads to “be the positive light to make the world an even better place.” SPEECH

What were you doing at age 14? Chances are none of us were spelling “koinonia." That’s the word 14-year-old Karthik Nemmani spelled correctly to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee last night.  An underdog at an early age, Nemmani didn’t win at the county or regional level, but a wild card program allowed him to compete for the national title. The Vegas Golden Knights (NHL - National Hockey League) head to Washington, D.C. on Saturday night to face the Washington Capitals with the Stanley Cup finals series tied 1-1. Indianapolis 500 

When life hands you a bittersweet moment. The iconic Indy 500 is on Sunday and it’s the last race for driver Danica Patrick before she retires. She holds the record for the highest finish by a woman in this race, but can she take home the win? You can also look forward to the winner chugging milk, a dance party on the infield and the drivers literally kissing the ground. Find out more in our Five Things To Know About The Indy 500. READ

Soccer

When you’re on top of the world. The world’s most popular athlete, Cristiano Ronaldo and his Real Madrid team will face Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday. (UEFA is the Union of European Football Associations – remember their football is our soccer). This game is a huge deal because the winner will essentially be the best team in European soccer. (Think Super Bowl magnitude).

Overtime

Last night the Houston Rockets (NBA – National Basketball Association) honored the victims and students of the Santa Fe High School shooting before their game five playoff win against the Golden State Warriors. Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta and rapper Travis Scott thanked the first responders and over 300 students from the school in attendance. Also at the game, Justin Timberlake and Houston Texans’ J.J. Watt (NFL – National Football League), who offered to pay for the victims' funerals.

Sideline stat

Serena Williams is entering this weekend’s French Open, one of tennis’ four Grand Slam tournaments, unranked. Previously ranked #1, she lost her ranking because of her maternity leave, but don’t expect her to be down for long. In addition to playing in the individual tournament, she will also play doubles alongside her sister Venus.

Coaches’ corner

The most picturesque sporting event takes place on Sunday when FI (Formula One) takes over Monaco. The cars will race through the streets of this tiny city-state and while the racing is great, the scenery is better. What to watch

Your Sunday is going to be busy between pool parties, F1, IndyCar and the NBA playoffs. LeBron James has been in the NBA Finals for seven straight years but his Cleveland Cavaliers are down 3-2  to the Boston Celtics in a best-of-seven series. They're going to have have to win tonight and Sunday to make it to the finals.  IT’S NOT IMPOSSIBLE
