The NFL regular season kicked off last night with the oldest rivalry in football, the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears (Packers won). One guy who isn’t likely to be taking the field with the rest of his team when they play Monday night? Antonio Brown. The new Oakland Raiders wide receiver has had a tumultuous off-season, first with his frostbitten feet, then helmetgate and now he got into it with the team’s general manager. Power couple Megan Rapinoe (U.S. Women’s Soccer) and Sue Bird (WNBA – Women’s National Basketball Association - legend) grace the cover of this month’s InStyle Magazine. The two talk about their never-ending fight for female athletes, Bird’s viral article about how the president hates her girlfriend (and the scary things that have ensued because of that) and of course, love and fashion. 1998 – that’s the year the NFL outlawed tinted helmet visors for players’ helmets. Their reasoning, sometimes the medical staff needs to see the players’ eyes without removing their helmets. 21 years later, they are now allowed. The league landed Oakley as the “official helmet visor provider of the NFL” and the league’s “preferred eyewear provider.” Now players can have the tinted protection, provided it’s the Oakley approved version. Serena Williams is back in the U.S. Open finals (tennis) for the second year in a row. (You might remember she lost last year to Naomi Osaka). She will play Bianca Andreescu, the first Canadian to ever play in the U.S. Open finals, on Saturday in her quest to tie the record for Grand Slam wins at 24. DÉJÀ VU

What to watch

College Football
“Week Zero” of college football starts this weekend. Why is it called week zero? Consider it a warm up to the big kickoff to college football next weekend. There are two games this weekend including one between in-state rivals Florida and Miami. ESPN College GameDay will be broadcasting from Walt Disney World and not everyone thinks it’s the happiest set location on earth. THE SUNSHINE GAME

Overtime
It’s been two years in the making but the XFL (Xtreme Football League) has released the names and logos of its eight teams that will debut in February 2020. The independent league is meant to fill the gap between the NFL (National Football League) season with NFL quality players. The AAF (Alliance of American Football) tried and failed last year so everyone is already a bit skeptical. COMING TO A CITY NEAR YOU

The final PGA (Professional Golfers Association) tournament of the season is this weekend and the top 30 golfers will hit the greens battling for a $15 million check. While we can agree prize money is great, what everyone is really talking about is #1 ranked golfer Brooks Koepka posing in the buff for the ESPN Body Issue, which will be released September 4. We will soon find out who the Little League World Series Champions are. Hawaii advances to their second straight U.S. Championship and they will play the team from Eastbank (Louisiana) on Saturday. The winner of that game will face the winner of the international bracket, either Japan or Curacao, on Sunday night to determine the overall LLWS Champion. HOIST THE TROPHY
What to watch
It’s the one weekend of the year where MLB players can express themselves. On Players Weekend, the league loosens up a bit and allows players to wear crazy cleats without a threat of a fine and jerseys with their nicknames on the back. This year’s monochrome black or white uniforms feature some of the best nicknames including “Not Justin” (Shane Bieber – Cleveland Indians), “Dup There It Is” (Jon Duplantier – Arizona Diamondbacks) and the lettuce emoji (Chad Bettis – Colorado Rockies).
