This weekend’s playoff games will determine which two teams will play in the Super Bowl on February 2. Game one is between the Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs and includes one coach who might have to eat his words (or lose his man parts) and the other who is hoping to cement his place in the hall of fame. The other game pits the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers (aka boyfriend of former race car driver Danica Patrick) against Tom Brady’s former backup Jimmy Garoppolo and his San Francisco 49ers. GAME ON
Overtime
Joining the already packed Super Bowl dance card is Demi Lovato, who will be singing the national anthem before the big game. She’ll be followed by Jennifer Lopez and Shakira who will show us all how inadequate we are at shaking our hips during the Super Bowl halftime show. LADIES NIGHT

You may remember cocky Irishman Conor McGregor for his fight a few years ago against boxer Floyd Mayweather that captivated the sports world. Saturday night, he’ll be fighting against fan favorite and UFC’s (Ultimate Fighting Championship) all-time wins leader, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. McGregor is seeking his first win since 2016. It’s been a big week for women in sports. First, we celebrated the WNBA’s (Women’s National Basketball Association) collective bargaining agreement that provides paid maternity leave and elevated salaries to players. Now to close out a progressive week, Alyssa Nakken has been named as an assistant coach for the San Francisco Giants (MLB – Major League Baseball). She is the first female coach in MLB history. What to watch
A story to keep an eye on. An arrest warrant was issued yesterday for the NFL’s Odell Beckham Jr. (no relation to David Beckham) for slapping the posterior of a security officer during the LSU (Louisiana State) locker room celebration on Monday night. Summer Olympics
The Summer Olympics are fast approaching and you can now sleep better knowing your athletes will too. Olympians at the Tokyo Olympics will be sleeping on recycled cardboard bed frames. The cardboard frames can hold up to 400 lbs. and will be recycled into paper material after the games. The mattresses will be a bit more comfortable and will be recycled into plastic products post-games. SLEEPING FOR GOOD

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before. Dad loses finger on a recruiting trip and sues the school even though his son plays football there. Until recently, Cade Mays played on the football team for the University of Georgia. During his recruiting trip, his dad lost his finger in an unfortunate folding chair incident. Mays recently decided to transfer to Tennessee and his dad sued Georgia for $3.5 million for the missing appendage incident. WE CAN COUNT ON ONE HAND HOW MANY TIMES WE’VE HEARD THIS HAPPEN

This weekend is the next round of playoffs in the NFL (National Football League). As you probably have heard, the Patriots are out (but Tom Brady is not). An interesting point to note for the Baltimore Ravens – Tennessee Titans game on Saturday. There will be five former Heisman Trophy winners playing in this game. It’s inspiring to play for a coach who believes in you, until he doesn’t. University of North Carolina’s basketball coach Roy Williams has been around college basketball forever. He’s won some and lost some, but mostly won. He’s keeping it real about the average talent on the court this year, calling them the “least gifted team” he’s ever coached. TRUTH HURTS

Things are getting crazy this weekend in the NFL. It’s wild card weekend and anything could happen. For the first time in a decade, the New England Patriots have to fight for a spot in the playoffs. Is it possible that this weekend’s game will be the last for Tom Brady as a member of the Patriots? IF GISELE HAS HER WAY

We all know that Justin Bieber is a proud Canadian but did you know he has some serious hockey skills as well? Jordan Binnington, goalie for the Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues (NHL – National Hockey League), challenged Bieber to a shoot out challenge. Bieber accepted and the two could face-off for charity during NHL all-star weekend at the end of the month. UNDER PRESSURE

This week we lost longtime NBA (National Basketball Association) commissioner David Stern at the age of 77. While many people sang his praise the full impact of his time with the league is now being put on paper. He is responsible for taking an underdog league to the international powerhouse it is today.
For perspective, when he started the finals were shown on tape delay after the late local news. Imagine telling LeBron that he’s going to have to wait until after the third round of weather on the nightly news? Another big exclamation point of his career is that he drove revenues from $165 million to $5.5 billion. Players and referees will wear black bands for the rest of the season in memory of Stern. Anything can happen when fans are allowed to vote for the players in an all-star game. Case in point – the NBA All-Star Game. Fan favorite Tacko Fall is sixth in voting even though he has only played 11 minutes so far this season.
