Golf

After you finish your Black Friday online shopping spend your afternoon with your feet up and a little golf. Charles Barkley (NBA - National Basketball Association - Hall of Famer) and Phil Mickelson (PGA - Professional Golf Association) will tee off against Steph Curry (NBA) and Peyton Manning (former NFL - National Football League - quarterback) in Capital One's The Match: Champions for Change. The Match III takes place this afternoon and there are two wild cards – Barkley’s dreadful golf swing and the $2.5M hole-in-one charity challenge. Partner WarnerMedia will also contribute one million meals through Feeding America.

Earlier this year, Match II took place when Mickelson, Manning, Tiger Woods (PGA) and Tom Brady (NFL) raised over $20M for COVID relief efforts. GOLF CLAP

If you ever thought actor Chris Hemsworth would make a great wrestler, hold onto your hats. Hemsworth posted a photo of his training regimen for his role as Hulk Hogan in a new biopic about the famed wrestler. Bradley Cooper is the producer and Hogan himself will act as a consultant and executive producer on the film. HULKAMANIA

the first time in 15 years. He’ll duke it out with another boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition fight tomorrow night. Both fighters are over the age of 50 and it’s the first time they’ve never played to win. You read that right - there will be no judges. The only way they can win is if either fighter is deemed unfit to continue or somehow one of them gets knocked out (but knockouts aren’t allowed). California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Forster said "They can move around and make some money, but I told them if you get cut, it's over." FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING

Coaches’ corner

If you happened to catch the Dallas Cowboys - Washington Football Team (NFL) game yesterday you might have wondered how they got around COVID rules to have Kane Brown as a halftime performer. Unbeknownst to the TV viewing audience, the performance was filmed weeks ahead of time on the field at Cowboys Stadium. ONE THING RIGHT

May The Force Be With You

A new professional sport now has a home in the U.S., star-studded soccer playoffs and the family-friendly golf tourney with a $1M purse.

As curfews go into effect across the country, that means your masked conversation while dining outdoors should be interesting and thought-provoking. What better way to relate to everyone than where sports meets pop culture?

No need for a curfew if your bedtime is 10 pm,

The Last Night’s Game Team

MLS (Major League Soccer)

Tonight’s Friday night lights bring us a different kind of football tonight with the start of the MLS playoffs in a COVID world. With a compressed schedule, MLS will do everything in their power to reschedule a game where one or both teams is suffering from a COVID outbreak but it could result in a forfeit of the game and therefore the team would exit the postseason (it’s a single-elimination tournament). The Sporting Kansas City and Philadelphia Union are both ranked No. 1 in their respective conferences but it’s anyone’s guess who will end up in the finals on December 12. Kevin Durant (Phil. Union) is one of the star-studded athletes and celebrities to have an ownership stake in an MLS team. SIDE HUSTLE

Overtime

Don’t get us wrong, we all wish COVID would go away but the wife of Detroit Lions (NFL - National Football League) quarterback Matt Stafford took to social media to share her displeasure with the rules in place. In Kelly Stafford’s Instagram life story she said “I'm over living in a dictatorship we call Michigan.” The rant comes days after Michigan implemented new rules including taking school and work virtual. She later apologized for the use of the word dictatorship and praised healthcare workers. RUBBED PEOPLE THE WRONG WAY

There’s nothing like quality family time on the golf course but how about doing it for your share of $1M? Tiger Woods announced that he and his son Charlie, 11, will be battling it out against John Daly and 18 other legendary golfers (think Greg Norman, David Duval and Jim Furyk) and a member of their family in the PNC Championship on December 17. While the tourney is for fun and won’t go against anyone’s records there is a total purse of $1M on the line. FAMILY FUN

Wednesday night was a big night for the Ball family. First, the youngest of the three basketball brothers, LaMelo Ball was the third selection in the NBA (National Basketball Association) Draft by the Charlotte Hornets. (Michael Jordan is an owner and chairman of the Hornets). And SPOILER ALERT older brother, Lonzo Ball who plays for the New Orleans Pelicans, was unveiled as the whatchamacallit on the “Masked Singer.” Like a man to man defense, actor Ken Jeong nailed it when he said it was Ball, who is also a rapper on the side. SO LITTLE TIME FOR THAT MUCH TALENT

The Super Bowl Halftime headliner announced, is the college football season doomed and why the Masters is the place to be?

College Football

Holy COVID. Seriously, the virus we all hate is delivering a serious hit to college football this weekend. From coast to coast games are being cancelled or postponed. Cal hasn’t played a game yet this season due to COVID and a huge game between Alabama and LSU has been postponed. The head of the SEC (which some might call the most powerful conference in college football) said they are “shaken but not deterred” by this week’s COVID outbreaks. WELL CRAP

Is your favorite team playing or postponed? Find out here.

On a lighter note, let’s talk about everyone’s favorite day of the year, the Super Bowl. We don’t know who will be playing yet but the best part of the game, the halftime show, has been locked up. The Weeknd announced that he will be the headliner for the halftime show for Super Bowl 55. The game will take place in Tampa Bay, FL on February 7, 2021. MARK YOUR CALENDARS

The baseball season didn’t start off too hot for Freddie Freeman. He missed most of summer camp battling COVID but that didn’t stop him. Freeman was crowned the National League MVP yesterday. He’s the first player for the Atlanta Braves (MLB - Major League Baseball) to win the title in 21 years. COMEBACK KID

Coaches’ corner

Yesterday was the first day of the most famous golf tournament of the year – the Masters - and defending champion Tiger Woods had a great day. One big complication of moving the Masters from April to November, besides yesterday’s rain delay, is with the conflict of NFL games on Sunday. Because we all know it’s all about money and TV time. Sunday’s final round will begin earlier than usual (10 am EST) so CBS can air afternoon football games. The voice of the Masters, Jim Nantz, is taking the day off of football to call golf. (Nantz you might recall is also the name behind the winery The Calling). WE CAN DRINK TO THAT

What to watch

Also, at the Masters? The crew from ESPN College GameDay, who had the foresight to abandon campus, is broadcasting live from Augusta National tomorrow. Smart move since so many college games are on hold.
