College Football
Zeb Noland wrapped his college football career at North Dakota State and happily accepted a job as a graduate assistant working under South Carolina Gamecocks' head coach Shane Beamer. Noland's coaching job was short-lived. Tomorrow, he will start as quarterback for his Gamecocks. The original starting quarterback is injured, so the team named Noland to the helm at the last minute. Overtime
Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli, a Paralympic shot putter from Malaysia, was stripped of his gold medal after arriving for the competition three minutes late. He was able to compete and win but was later disqualified. Zolkefli was one of three athletes that arrived late, and the Referee determined that there was "no justifiable reason for the athletes' failure to report to the Call Room on time," therefore they were disqualified. Zolkefli said, "I apologize to all Malaysians. Thank you for supporting me." TOUGH LESSON TO LEARN
Sideline stat
If you thought you had pee anxiety, imagine having to take a bathroom break while an arena filled with fans anxiously await your return. During his match at the US Open, tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas took an eight-minute bathroom break after losing a set to competitor Adrian Mannarino. (Tsitsipas eventually won the match). The Grand Slam rulebook doesn't have a specific rule about the number or length of bathroom breaks but says players should take a "reasonable" amount of time but does not provide an exact number of minutes that would be acceptable. Fans booed Tsitsipas upon his return, but he seemed to not give two sh*ts. IT HAPPENS

The biggest news of this weekend could be the return of Lee Corso. The 86-year-old mascot-head-wearing star of College GameDay is back. Coach Corso spent the last season of the football fans' version of Saturday morning cartoons working from home thanks to COVID. He's back, and he'll be joined tomorrow morning by the GameDay crew and guest picker NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) 2020 Cup champion, driver Chase Elliott. GUESS WHO'S BACK?

College football is back. Well, kind of. This week marks "Week Zero" of the college football season. Why zero? The majority of the teams that play this weekend aren't your typical big-name college football schools. Consider it early bird gets the worm (i.e., TV coverage). ESPN “College GameDay” will be back Saturday morning with special guest, former NFL (NFL – National Football League) player and current Jackson State head football coach, Deion Sanders. It seems that Nick Chubb of the Cleveland Browns (NFL) might need to change his name to Capt'n Crunch. The Browns player is trying to change the world, one box of cereal at a time. His cereal, Chubb's Crunch, has been breaking sales records, and it's all for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds from cereal sales goes to eliminating sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Gold medal gymnast Suni Lee stepped into the spotlight in Tokyo and never looked back. Lee, who started her semester at Auburn earlier this month, is the newest addition to the star-studded roster for "Dancing With The Stars." The full lineup will be announced on September 8, but we know that singer JoJo Siwa will join Lee. Siwa will be part of the first same-sex dance couple in the show's history with a female dance partner. IN IT TO WIN IT

Team USA secured its first gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics thanks to 17-year-old swimmer Anastasia Pagonis. The Games were the first international meet of her career. On top of that, she broke her world record. Watching these stellar athletes is so much easier than before, with NBC planning 1,200 hours of programming from Tokyo, including more than 200 on TV. That's up from only 5.5 hours of coverage total in 2012. LOVE TO SEE IT

Sha’Carri Richardson became a household name after the track and field star tested positive for marijuana and could not compete at the Summer Olympics. Well, she’s back and ready to show the world what they were missing. She posted on Instagram that “It’s game time b*tches” as she previewed her new look. Richardson will compete in one of the biggest annual track events, the Prefontaine Classic, against some of the best in the world this weekend. She’ll take on the Jamaican trio of Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson. SHOW THEM WHAT YOU’VE GOT

Let’s be honest, Kendall Jenner rocks pretty much everything she wears, including a gold medal. Her boyfriend of one year, Devin Booker, posted a photo on Instagram of her wearing his gold medal while enjoying lake time. The NCAA is finally coming around to the fact that women’s basketball deserves a second look. They will now use the term “March Madness” for both the men’s and women’s college basketball tournaments vs. only using March Madness in reference to the men’s tourney. The teams competing for the Little League World Series (LLWS) title are slowly whittling down, and the Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Angels (MLB - Major League Baseball) want in on the excitement. They will play a big league game at the home of the LLWS in Williamsport, PA. They are planning to dress the part, donning little league-inspired uniforms. The LLWS usually features teams from all over the world, but thanks to COVID, this year’s tournament will only feature American All-Star teams. THE NOT SO WORLD SERIES WORLD SERIES
