Teeing It Up

The Masters, Joe Burrow vs. an actual hippo, last week of the NBA Season and this week's Tailgate Treat

We're teeing up everything you need for the small talk this weekend.

Golf clap,
The Last Night's Game Team

PGa (professional golfers association)

The greatest game on grass starts with day two today, and it began a little earlier than planned, thanks to the weather.

Fans are raving about the mid-round live interviews with the players on the course. After the first round of play, we have a three-way tie for first place between Jon Rahm, Viktor hovland and Brooks Koepka, who are already playing this morning. Tiger Woods will need a solid second round today to make the cut.

What's the cut line, the lack of birds at the Masters, and the $1.50 concessions? Here's what you need to know about the Masters. LISTEN or WATCH ON YOUTUBE

  • Biaggio Ali Walsh, the grandson of former heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali, is fighting tonight as part of the Professional Fighters League (PFL). The PFL is the No. 2 mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion behind the UFC.

  • Cincinnati Bengals quarterback (NFL - National Football League) Joe Burrow was voted the most popular Cincinnatian. The vote officially knocks Fiona the Hippo of the Cincinnati Zoo from her throne for the first time in half a decade.

  • The new "Ted Lasso" episode pays tribute to late soccer reporter Grant Wahl who passed away at the Men's World Cup late last year.

  • Sam Bennett, a 23-year-old amateur golfer in the Masters, has the last words his dad ever wrote tattooed on his arm.

Before We Go

It's the final weekend of the NBA (National Basketball Association) season. While most of the playoff spots have been secured, the race for the "play-in games" is in full effect, especially for Mark Cuban and his Dallas Mavericks, who are fighting to keep hopes alive after trading for Kyrie Irving hasn't gone so well. LET'S DO THIS

*The play-in tournament is when the No. 7 - No. 10 seeded teams play each other for a spot in the playoffs.

College basketball

We've made it to the end of the insanity called March Madness.

Tonight, we will find out if "Steph Curry with a ponytail," Caitlin Clark, and her Iowa team can stop the Goliath that is Aliyah Boston and the undefeated South Carolina Gamecocks. "Bayou Barbie," Angel Reese of LSU, will try to lead her team past Virginia Tech. Reese leads all college basketball players in NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals.

The Men's Final Four will occur on Saturday night in the series of firsts. Out of San Diego State, Florida Atlantic, Miami and UConn. UConn is the only team to previously make a final four and win the championship. Watch for head coach Jim Larranaga's legendary dance moves if Miami takes home a win. The 73-year-old, who has Final Four experience with George Mason, is in his 37th year as head coach.

You Can't Hurry Love

Sweet 16, Tom Brady is back, thank goodness for doctors and this week's Tailgate Treat.

For some, the love of sports isn't one at first sight. The more you're exposed to it, you learn that it's not all scores and acronyms (RBIs, anyone?). Head into the weekend, confidently prepared to converse with anyone.

Looks good on you,
The Last Night's Game Team

College basketball

The smell of victory is sweet as we roll into the Sweet 16 and the Elite Eight this weekend.

In the men's tourney, of the four No. 1 ranked teams that entered the tournament last week, Houston and Alabama are the only two left. Shout out to Florida Atlantic, which didn't have an NCAA tournament win in the history of its men's basketball program, and last night they punched their card to the Elite 8, upsetting No. 4 Tennessee.

The women take the court today through Monday with only two No. 1 ranked teams left in the tournament. Defending champions, the South Carolina Gamecocks, are still the favorite to win it all.

Short and Sweet

  • The Chicago Blackhawks (NHL - National Hockey League) scrap plans to wear Pride Night jerseys on Sunday due to safety concerns over Russian players.

  • Credit to the New Orleans Saints (NFL - National Football League) medical staff once again. Free agent tight end Foster Moreau was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma during a physical. Dr. John Amoss, the Saints' longtime team physician, also discovered that former long snapper Jon Dorenbos had an aortic aneurysm in 2017.

  • It's the second stop on tennis' "Sunshine Double" (Indian Wells, CA and Miami Open). Top-ranked Novak Djokovic (COVID vaccine visa issue) and No. 1 ranked Iga Swiatek (injury) are missing from the lineup.

  • Tom Brady is back with a new team - the Las Vegas Aces (WNBA - Women's National Basketball Association).

Before We Go
