Zero The Hero

It's week zero in college football, a 'name the mascot' that has potential to go horribly wrong, $18M on the line and this week's Tailgate Treat.

Zero - the number of cares we have when plans get canceled.

Bring on a yoga pant-only kind of weekend,
The Last Night's Game Team

College Football

Week zero of the college football season is upon us. No top 25 teams will take the field this weekend, but that gives schools that might not get the TV time a little love. You can start your Saturday in Ireland with the Nebraska vs. Northwestern game. Stop over in Las Vegas for the UNLV - Idaho State game. Then grab a cocktail to wrap up the day with the Vanderbilt-Hawaii game. GAME ON

Short and Sweet

Before We Go

It's the final weekend of the PGA (Professional Golfers Association) season, and it all comes down to this, the final round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. On the line is, of course, a title but also $18M in prize money. Despite being one of the front runners, Will Zalatoris withdrew with a back injury. (Zalatoris is the golfer who resembles the "Happy Gilmore" caddie).

The No. 1 player in the world, Scottie Scheffler, might splurge for a new car if he wins. He still drives the "dirty" 2012 GMC Yukon his father gifted him in college with estimated 170,000 miles on it. HUMILITY WILL GET YOU EVERYWHERE

I Ain't Worried

Dennis Rodman the diplomat, Brady on the "Masked Singer" and the Bills Mafia steps up yet again.

No need for anxiety in social situations, sports is a controversy-free way to start up a conversation.

Easy breezy,
The Last Night's Game Team

PS: Sending love to the students (and their parents) returning to school this week.

WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association)

An unsuspecting diplomat, former NBA (National Basketball Association) star Dennis Rodman plans to travel to Russia to help negotiate the release of WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) champion Brittney Griner. This isn't Rodman's first time representing the USA. You might remember his unlikely friendship with Kim Jong Un of North Korea. American Kenneth Bae thanked Rodman for being a “catalyst” in his 2014 release from North Korea. INTERNATIONAL MAN OF MYSTERY

Short and Sweet

  • The Buffalo Bills Mafia (NFL - National Football League) once again stepped up to give back, raising more than $100K to honor Luke Knox, brother of Bills player Dawson Knox, who passed suddenly away at age 22.

  • The big leaguers (MLB - Major League Baseball) had a chance to act like kids at the Little League Baseball World Series.

  • Kansas City Current's Lo’eau LaBonta (NWSL - National Women's Soccer League) may have pulled off the best goal celebration of the season.

  • The unofficial start of a college football season is this week with week zero. There are a handful of games, but no top 25 teams play until week one, which is next week.

Before We Go

Tom Brady (NFL) is returning to Tampa Bay Buccaneers camp this week after a personal leave. Rumor has it his break was to star in a season of the "Masked Singer."

But Brady's FBFF (Football BFF) Rob Gronkowski spilled the beans that he and Brady were THIS close to signing with the Las Vegas Raiders before signing with the Buccaneers. GAME CHANGER

Massive

Why one coach wants "Hairy chests with 'Chicago' logos on it," great news for wings fans and this week's Tailgate Treat.

Friday - the gateway to the weekend.

Welcome to the world,
The Last Night's Game Team

WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association)

The first round of the WNBA playoffs is underway, and the New York Liberty shocked the defending champion Chicago Sky at home in game one. Sky coach James Wade pleaded to fans to support the team saying, "I wanna see a lot of people with beer, just chugging it everywhere. Hairy chests with 'Chicago' logos on it and painted faces everywhere." The first round is a best-of-three games series, and the two teams play again tomorrow. SMELLS LIKE TEAM SPIRIT

Short and Sweet

  • Great news for football fans. Chicken wings are cheaper than pre-pandemic prices, just in time for the season.

  • At over $1B annually, the new Big Ten media rights deal is believed to be the largest in the history of college athletics.

  • The incredible story of how kids fighting in the street ended up participating in Pittsburgh Steelers camp (NFL - National Football League), all thanks to the Steelers head coach.

  • Mookie Betts (MLB - Major League Baseball) and other athletes are sending their well wishes to a Utah Little League Baseball World Series player who fractured his skull after falling out of a team bunk bed.

Before We Go

According to a settlement reached between the NFL and its players' union, Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will be suspended for 11 games and pay a $5M fine over his sexual misconduct accusations. In a story that seems like it's made for ratings, Watson's first game back this season will be in Houston, where Waston's misconduct occurred. IT'S SETTLED
