Serena Williams gave a valiant effort in her last match of the U.S. Open (and maybe of her career) but lost to Ajla Tomljanovic. Don't worry; she planned on getting over the loss by doing karaoke. If you need another American to cheer for, how about the youngest player left in the draw, 18-year-old Coco Gauff? Gauff is heading to the quarterfinals. GAME, SET, MATCH

South Carolina women's basketball head coach Dawn Staley won't stand for racism. The team canceled their series against BYU after a recent incident where a Duke volleyball player said a Cougars fan yelled racial slurs at her.
Uvalde High School played its first home game since the tragic shooting, and the Houston Texans (NFL - National Football League) bought the team new gear/uniforms, and then the team won on a miraculous series of plays.
The NFL knows its target demographic, announcing Ozzy Osborne as the halftime show for Thursday's season opener between the Buffalo Bills-Los Angeles Rams.

College Football
The official start of the college football season kicked off last night. The game of the week, and the location of Saturday's ESPN College GameDay set, is Columbus, OH, where Ohio State will take on Notre Dame. Typically, the GameDay guest picker is a celeb with an affiliation to one of the universities but not this time. Rapper Jack Harlow will hype the crowd with his game picks. Don't forget to watch for Peloton instructor Jess Sims, the newest addition to the GameDay team. LET'S DO THIS

The sports world is buzzing about Serena Williams. She's headed to the third round of the U.S. Open after beating the No. 2 ranked player in the world. ESPN is showing her match tonight vs. a week one college football game, and ticket prices for tonight's match are insane.
Rumors are swirling that Alex Rodriguez is struggling to come up with his portion of the money to purchase the Minnesota Timberwolves (NBA - National Basketball Association). Some blame his ex Jennifer Lopez, saying it's because she helped charm investors.
The Walton Family, who now owns the Denver Broncos (NFL - National Football League), is spending money like us in Target. They signed Russell Wilson to a new five-year contract extension with $165M in guaranteed money.
The NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) playoffs begin this weekend. The chances of understanding the playoff system are about as low as Miss Daisy winning the league's championship.

It will be a tough start to the season for head coach Deion Sanders and his Jackson State team, who open up the season at home. Their facility has been impacted by the dire water situation in Jackson, home of Jackson State. ICYMI, Mississippi declared a state of emergency for its capital city after the city's main water treatment facility failed. HEARTBREAKING

The U.S. Open begins today, and while it's exciting, it's bittersweet. The tennis world will use the tournament to bid farewell to one of our country's best tennis players - Serena Williams. Williams announced earlier this month that she would "evolve" away from tennis after the U.S. Open. She's going out with a bang - playing in both the singles (starting tonight) and doubles tournament, where she's matched up with her sister Venus. WHAT A WAY TO GO OUT

The only logical explanation for Tom Brady's 11-day absence is, 'I'm 45 years old. There's a lot of s--- going on.'
The Buffalo Bills (NFL - National Football League) released the "Punt God" after allegations of rape.
Skipping the workout and the vegetables paid off for golfer Rory McIlroy. He took home his third FedEx Championship and the $18M in prize money yesterday.
Hawaii showed the little league world who's boss, outscoring their opponents 60-5 in their six games and winning the Little League Baseball World Series championship.
Before We Go
College football started this past weekend with week zero. One game was a dream come true for fans - it came with free beer. During the Northwestern - Nebraska game in Dublin, Ireland, the WiFi for the credit card machines went out in the stadium. The stadium gave away free food and beer instead of stopping sales (they weren't allowed to take cash). No word if the excessive free beer was the cause for the botched play call that caused Nebraska to lose the game. FREE IS FOR ME
