Argentina is the best in the world but France still wins on Twitter, $3M < $1.5M and the record UK fans didn't know was up for grabs.

Elon Musk is doing his best to steal the headlines from yesterday’s epic World Cup final game.

Rinse, repeat,
The Last Night's Game Team

WORLD CUP (Soccer)

Suppose you missed yesterday's World Cup final. In that case, you might have missed out on one of the best games in soccer of our lifetime. Argentina won, bringing Lionel Messi the coveted World Cup title, the only award/title missing from his career accomplishments. The game went through double overtime and then nail-biting penalty kicks

According to Elon Musk, whose tweet may be his demise as CEO, France still won in his world. The team set the record with 24,400 tweets per second after France's second goal in two minutes by Kylian Mbappé - the highest ever for the World Cup. Mbappé scored three goals in the game, but it wasn't enough. SILVER LINING

Short and Sweet

  • The Minnesota Vikings staged the biggest comeback in NFL (NFL - National Football League) history on Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts.

  • Texas defeated Louisville to win the women's volleyball national championship.

  • The Las Vegas Raiders (NFL) had the craziest ending to end (and win) their game against the New England Patriots.

  • The fan who caught New York Yankees' Aaron Judge's (MLB - Major League Baseball) record 62nd home run ball reportedly turned down an initial $3M offer. He just sold it for $1.5M

Before We Go

Blame it on the (lack of) alcohol in Qatar? No fans from England or Wales were arrested at a World Cup for the first time, according to the head of the UK's football police. (Note: This doesn't include anything that may have happened during yesterday's final game). FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING

Simply The Best

Ronaldo is out, but Messi is in. Mr. Irrelevant is so good it’s bringing people to tears and a mysterious World Cup death.

Is there anything better than celebrating new traditions and honoring old ones during the holidays?

Making memories,
The Last Night's Game Team

WORLD CUP (Soccer)

Cristiano Ronaldo is out, but Lionel Messi is still in. Ronaldo's Portugal team lost to Morocco. After the loss, Ronaldo left the field in tears in what is likely his last World Cup. The underdog team, Morocco, is continuing its epic run toward the championship as the first African and first Arab team to make it to the semifinals.

Messi is still eyeing his first World Cup title. His Argentina team will play Croatia tomorrow. Defending champions France will play Morocco on Wednesday. GAME ON

Short and Sweet

  • There was a somber tone to the World Cup this weekend after US sports journalist Grant Wahl collapsed and died during the Netherlands-Argentina match in Qatar. Wahl was an outspoken advocate of the LGBTQIA+ community, which is drawing skepticism around his death, but that theory is unfounded at this time.

  • The Philadelphia Eagles (NFL - National Football League) are having a dominant season, becoming the first team to clinch a playoff spot

  • In the latest interaction of The Match, youth prevails with golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas defeating veterans Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

  • In an all-quarterback final round, USC's sophomore quarterback Caleb Williams wins the 2022 Heisman Trophy. This win is head coach Lincoln Riley's third Heisman winner in his sixth year as a head coach.

Before We Go

Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy continues his fairytale run, beating Tom Brady and his Buccaneers yesterday. But the best moment was Purdy's dad tearing up in the stands as his son dominated. (Mr. Irrelevant is the nickname given to the last player drafted in the NFL Draft). PROUD MOMENT

'Tis The Season

US is out, four teams are pencilling in their NYE plans and Deion Sanders is moving the family to Colorado.

An espresso martini is basic? Well, it was one of the most ordered cocktails at US bars this year. It replaced the manhattan cocktail on the list, but the margarita still took the top spot.

Just in time for the holiday party season,
The Last Night's Game Team

WORLD CUP (Soccer)

The US was no match for the soccer powerhouse of the Netherlands. They lost in the knockout round of 16 on Saturday. The knockout round of 16 continues through tomorrow, with the round of eight starting this weekend.

Lionel Messi (Argentina) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) are on pace for their first World Cup win, with teams like Japan, England and France still in it. GOING FOR GOLD

Short and Sweet

Before We Go

After a spectacular season, former NFL player Deion Sanders is leaving the head coaching position at Jackson State, and he's taking his family with him. Coach Prime accepted the head coaching job with the University of Colorado Buffaloes.

He's already encouraging interested Buffaloes players to take advantage of the college football transfer portal, which opens today, to build back one of the worst teams in college football. His son, the quarterback at Jackson State, will be moving to be his starting QB at Colorado. SO YOU'RE SAYING THERE'S A CHANCE
