Most Olympians leave the Games and build something respectable.
Ryan Wedding didn’t.
In 2002, he competed in the 2002 Winter Olympics in the men’s parallel giant slalom, a high-speed race that rewards athletes who don’t hesitate.
Years later, federal prosecutors allege he helped orchestrate a massive multinational cocaine trafficking network, operating under aliases like “El Jefe” and “Giant.” Authorities claim he moved billions of dollars of cocaine across international borders and directed violent retaliation killings.
His name has even been mentioned alongside notorious figures such as Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán and Pablo Escobar.
In this episode, we go beyond the headlines.
We explore:
The psychology of extreme sports
What happens when elite athletes lose structure
The identity crisis that can follow Olympic retirement
The ripple effects of ambition without guardrails
Because sometimes the most unsettling part of a fall from grace is how calculated it appears.
