Weekend Preview: No Quitting Here - Epic Football, Tennis Down Under + The Rise Of Volleyball

Happy Friday! Welcome to your weekend preview for January 10. If you're one of the many who’ve already abandoned their New Year’s resolutions (yep, it’s Quitters Day), don't fret—sports are here to help you avoid awkward conversations and dive into some exciting action on the field, court, and beyond.

College Football Semi-Finals
In college football, the semi-finals are partially set. Notre Dame advanced after a nail-biting game against Penn State last night. Tonight, Ohio State takes on Texas in a weather-impacted game in Dallas. The winner will advance to the National Championship Game on January 20.

Wild Card Weekend
The NFL (National Football League) playoffs are here! This weekend, we’ll see non-stop action from the Wild Card round. It’s no longer the Super Wild Card after the NFL removed “super,” but they assure us the games will be no less spectacular this year.

Here’s a closer look at some of the NFL (National Football League) matchups:

  • Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens (Saturday, January 13)
Amazon is shelling out big money for this game, which marks the first exclusive NFL postseason game on the streaming platform. The Pittsburgh Steelers will face the Baltimore Ravens in what is sure to be a classic AFC North battle.

  • Denver Broncos vs. Buffalo Bills (Sunday, January 14)
The Broncos are heading into the playoffs for the first time since their 2016 Super Bowl-winning season. Their rookie quarterback, Bo Nix, will face off against one of the NFL’s most elite quarterbacks, Josh Allen, and the Buffalo Bills. With temperatures expected to dip to 29°F, this will be a tough matchup as the Broncos try to hold their own in Buffalo's infamous weather.

  • Monday Night Football: Vikings vs. Rams (Monday, January 15)
The highly anticipated Monday Night Football game has been relocated to Arizona due to fires in Los Angeles.

Australian Open Kicks Off
The first major tennis tournament of the year is here, and Novak Djokovic is once again the favorite. The 10-time champion has a new coach, tennis legend Andy Murray, as he heads to Melbourne to defend his title. Will he add another win to his already impressive resume? You’ll want to tune in to find out!

Women’s Volleyball is on Fire
Women's volleyball is having a moment with record-breaking attendance numbers in 2023 and 2024. 2025 continues to promise excitement, with the Pro Volleyball Federation and League One Volleyball starting their seasons this week.

As you enjoy the weekend and dive into these games, we hope you find a great topic to chat about, whether you’re a sports fan or just looking to stay in the loop!
