Weekend Preview: Burrow's Batmobile, Championship Weekend + Parents On Alert

It’s the perfect time to dive into a jam-packed weekend of sports, and we have plenty to discuss. From college football championships to NFL highlights, WNBA expansion to Major League Soccer finals—this weekend has something for everyone.

College Football Championship Weekend: Big Games and Big Stakes

It's that time of year again—conference championship weekend! The pressure is on with the newly expanded 12-team playoffs on the horizon. The top four ranked conference champions will earn a coveted bye in the first round, making this a crucial weekend in the world of college football. Here are the key games to watch:

  • Clemson vs. SMU: SMU’s first season in the ACC, and they’re making an impression.

  • Georgia vs. Texas: A thrilling match between No. 5 Georgia and No. 2 Texas. It’s Texas' first season in the SEC, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

  • Iowa vs. Arizona State: ASU faces off against Iowa, which is a game to watch after ASU was picked to finish last in the Big 12.

  • Oregon vs. Penn State: Oregon, ranked No. 1, takes on No. 3 Penn State in another high-stakes championship game.

The NFL: Joe Burrow's Heroic Efforts and More

Joe Burrow may be having an MVP-caliber season for the Cincinnati Bengals (NFL - National Football League), but his defense has them out of the running for the Super Bowl. So, in true superhero style, Burrow bought a Batmobile. Yes, you read that right! Check out our social media for more conversation starters around the NFL this weekend.

WNBA Expansion: The Golden State Valkyries Make Their Mark

The WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) welcomes a new expansion team, the Golden State Valkyries. This marks the league’s first expansion in over a decade, and they’re building their team through an expansion draft tonight. How does that work? The existing 12 WNBA teams each submitted to the league a full roster list of every player they have the rights to as of the final day of the 2024 regular season in September. Teams could choose up to six players on their lists to protect and make them ineligible to the Valkyries. The Valkyries will build their team from the unprotected players on the list.

Major League Soccer: L.A. Galaxy vs. New York Red Bulls

Major League Soccer's MLS Championship game will be a showdown between the L.A. Galaxy and the New York Red Bulls. With the Galaxy boasting five MLS cups and the Red Bulls with only one appearance, it’s sure to be an exciting match.

Last but not least

Here are some sports stories to share at a kid’s bday party or on the playground this weekend:

  • Tyler Lockhart: A linebacker’s switch in commitment from Mississippi State to Ole Miss is overshadowed by his mom’s refusal to sign the paperwork—before ultimately signing with Mississippi State.

  • Master P’s Son: Master P’s son and two other basketball players from Southern Utah University were arrested for allegedly stealing refrigerators.
