Survival Guide To December Small Talk

It’s a month full of awkward interactions and we’re here to help you make it through the small talk.

No need to insert foot in mouth,

The Last Night’s Game Team

SURVIVAL GUIDE TO DECEMBER SMALL TALK

1. December 2 is "Selection Sunday" where we will find out which teams play in which bowl games, along with the four team teams that are playing for the National Championship. Bowl games, which take place all over the country starting December 15, promise TV time and great national exposure for teams. Teams have to win at least six games during the regular season to be considered bowl eligible. PICK ME, PICK ME

2. You can always bring the conversation back to soccer, because just about everyone has played it in their lifetime. From the league that brought David Beckham to America, the two best teams will battle it out for the MLS (Major League Soccer) championship on Saturday, December 8. The playoffs have been exciting with the winner-take-all format. It all comes down to four teams - Atlanta United, New York Red Bulls, Portland Timbers and Sporting Kansas City. GOOOOOOAL

3. The Heisman Trophy is awarded to the best college football player on Saturday, December 8. The top candidates are Tua Tagovailoa, the sophomore quarterback from Alabama and Kyler Murray, the junior quarterback from Oklahoma. If you’re looking for a great gift for that special someone, a man once paid $255,500 for O.J. Simpson’s Heisman Trophy to impress his girlfriend. MY HERO

4. NBA (National Basketball Association) teams that made the playoffs last season will debut their Nike “Earned Edition” uniforms on Christmas Day. It’s an honor to play on Christmas Day in the NBA but not sure how special the uniforms are since the majority of the teams make the playoffs. PARTICIPATION JERSEY

5. December 29 is a big day for college football and an opportunity to talk about escaping the snow. The top four teams in the country (which will be determined on December 2) will play in either the Cotton Bowl (Dallas) or the Orange Bowl (Miami). The winner of those two games will play each other in the National Championship Game in the Bay Area on January 7. PLAY HARD

THERE’S MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM

If you’re more about staying present, this is what everyone is talking about today including an autistic athlete breaking boundaries, this sport has the highest paid athletes (you’ll never guess) and how the NFL inspired NASA. READ ME
