South Carolina pulled off the upset of the year, beating Georgia (#3) at home in double overtime. They not only made Georgia fans angry because of their victory but because the Gamecock players took home pieces of Sanford Stadium’s iconic hedges as souvenirs. THIS TREE’S FOR ME
Overtime
The New Orleans Saints (NFL – National Football League) had a higher power cheering them on Sunday. They were all but guaranteed a victory after Pope Francis used their hashtag on Twitter. The 82-year old head of the Catholic Church tweeted out a note to his 18 million followers to celebrate the canonization of five new saints but used the team’s hashtag “Saints” on Twitter, which makes the football team’s logo appear. GEAUX GOD
Sideline stat
While the rest of us were brunching this weekend, Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge did something no one has ever done before. He ran a marathon in less than two hours. He ran at a consistent pace of 4:33.5 minutes per mile. His run won’t qualify for the world record books because he had a pace team running alongside him. INCREDIBLE FEAT

The Gymnastics World Championships have come to a close and it’s no surprise that Simone Biles dominated, winning her 25th gold medal. With that win she became the most decorated gymnast in World Championship history. Post-victory she made a point to talk about how “it’s important to teach our female youth that it’s OK to say ‘Yes, I am good at this,’ and you don’t hold back. You see the men doing it. And they’re praised for it and the women are looked down upon for it.” SMALL BUT MIGHTY
What to watch
In case you missed it, the Seattle Seahawks (NFL) celebrated with a choreographed NSYNC touchdown dance….Also, Mother Nature did not cooperate with the NASCAR (National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing) playoffs, raining out Sunday’s race. Lucky you, you can watch it today instead of focusing on work.
