Feeling Presidential

Today we honor our country’s presidents by giving some of you the day off and having giant celebratory sales at retailers.

Here’s what’s else is buzzing today,

The Last Night’s Game Team

NBA (National Basketball Association)

The NBA took a risk in the all-star game, mixing up the scoring format into one that required a Ph.D. to understand. Regardless, the new system worked and had fans at the edge of their seats all the way to the end, something that rarely happens in any sport’s all-star game. While Team LeBron edged out Team Giannis in an exciting game, the night was somber with star-studded tributes to Kobe Bryant and former NBA commissioner David Stern, both who passed away earlier this year. But somewhere Fergie is smiling because fans also didn’t take well to Chaka Khan’s anthem performance. IN GOOD COMPANY

Overtime

J.J. Watt and Kealia Ohai married over the weekend in a beautiful ceremony in the Bahamas. While the NFL (National Football League) player and the professional soccer player had the “best day of their lives,” the real winner of the celebration was Watt’s grandma. She and her grandson showed off their moves when they cut a rug to cheers from the crowd. AGE AIN’T NOTHING BUT A NUMBER

Sideline stat

President Trump and the first lady kicked off the race at the Daytona 500 (NASCAR - National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) so it seems only fitting that the race will finish on Presidents’ Day. Thanks Mother Nature. Drivers raced only 20 of the 200 laps before the race was postponed due to rain. You can catch the Super Bowl of racing when it resumes today at 4 pm EST. DRIVERS, START YOUR ENGINES. AGAIN.

Coaches’ corner

Spring training (MLB - Major League Baseball) just started and it's already a mess. Last week we had the Houston Astros issue a sad attempt at an apology for cheating. Then Trevor Bauer of the Cincinnati Reds went off in a viral video about the possibility of an altered playoff system and how the league’s control over social media isn’t helping the its declining popularity. Over the weekend, MLB’s commissioner Rob Manfred spoke about how the players in the sign stealing incidents with the Astros and Boston Red Sox will not be punished - that doing the proverbial walk of shame this season in front of fans is punishment enough.
