The Governor of Georgia signed a bill yesterday to allow Georgia college athletes to be paid, but there’s a twist. The athletes will not have access to the money they earn right away. The money will be deposited into an escrow bank account set up by the college or university. The student will not be allowed to access that money until at least one year after they graduate or if they withdraw from the school. Georgia joins Florida and a few other states in allowing college athletes in the state to be paid for their name, image or likeness. FIRST MOVERS

Parker Hanson has decided to look at the silver lining after his prosthetic arm was stolen out of his car. The right-handed pitcher for Augustana University in South Dakota is choosing to gain joy from the outpouring of support from his community after his artificial limb and other must-have attachments for the prosthesis, valued at $25,000, were stolen. Police found the backpack with many of the attachments in it, but not the prosthetic arm. Fans have offered to start a GoFundMe page, but due to the NCAA rules (see above in Georgia), he cannot accept donations. A GOOD SPORT

At 6’4 and 229 pounds, Seattle Seahawks (NFL - National Football League) DK Metcalf is a specimen of a human being. In an unbelievable play vs. the Arizona Cardinals last season, he chased down an opponent like a cheetah. After that, U.S. Track and Field dared him to try out for the Olympics. Metcalf is giving it a go and will participate in an Olympic qualifying event this weekend. STAY TUNED

The NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League) is wrapping up its pre-season tournament on Saturday with the Challenge Cup finals between Portland Thorns FC and NJ/NY Gotham FC. The game will be on partner CBS, which saw a 493% growth in ratings for the women’s league last season. The game comes on the heels of a lawsuit by Olivia Moultrie, a rising star on the Thorns, who filed a lawsuit over the league’s age restriction. Moultrie can play on the practice squad and during pre-season games but cannot sign a contract with the league to play in official games until she’s 18. AGE AIN’T NOTHING BUT A NUMBER
