The Last Night’s Game Team
Kentucky Derby
The big winner in the Kentucky Derby, Medina Spirit, could lose its’ title after testing positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance. The horse’s trainer Bob Baffert denies that he gave the horse any illegal substance, but he has a history of questionable choices. Baffert, who has had five horses fail drug tests over the past 5 years, has been banned from Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, while further investigations are conducted. He still plans on entering Medina Spirit in the Preakness Stakes this weekend. LOCKED AND LOADED
Overtime
They may be the toughest competitors in their sport, but they all love their mamas. Pregame routines and social media were filled with tributes from some of your favorite athletes, including Tom Brady (NFL – National Football League) and Karl-Anthony Towns (NBA - National Basketball Association), who lost his mom to COVID. We loved seeing soccer’s Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris celebrate their first Mother’s Day. They recently became moms after adopting a baby girl. SO MUCH LOVE
Sideline stat
We had our hopes up for DK Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks (NFL) to make an appearance in this summer’s Olympics, but sadly that won’t be the case. In the qualifying race, he ran the 100-meter dash (confirm this) in 10.36 – coming in 15th in a field of 17. He would have automatically qualified with the time of 10.05. The ridiculously fast Metcalf tried out after accepting a dare given by U.S. Track and Field to attempt to qualify for the Olympics. THERE’S ALWAYS FOOTBALL
Coaches’ corner
Former NFL player and former ‘Bachelor’ Jesse Palmer has a new gig to add to his resume. The sports analyst will host a new reality TV show, “The Ultimate Surfer.” Surfing legend Kelly Slater will also have his hands in the project as it was filmed at his ranch. The show will select a male and female as the Ultimate Surfer and they will have the chance to compete on the WSL World Tour (World Surfing League). SURF’S UP
