It's a common practice for major football programs to pay smaller programs to play them, presumably a "pay for an easy win" scenario. This weekend that did not happen. Three teams, Texas A&M, Nebraska and Notre Dame, paid a combined $4.1M to Appalachian State, Georgia Southern and Marshall, and those smaller football programs not only cashed the check but also won the game.
