It will host the 2022 Commissioner's Cup Championship tomorrow. The Commissioner's Cup is an in-season competition that features 61 games throughout the regular season, with players competing for a prize pool of $500,000 and an additional $165,000 for charitable and civic organizations.
Why is this such a big deal? Members of the winning team can earn up to $30,000 per player, and those on the losing team can collect as much as $10,000 per player. The average WNBA salary for the 2020-21 season was $120,648, with the largest salary award going to Jewell Lloyd (Chicago Sky) at $231,515 a season. This is why you see players playing on teams in countries like Russia to supplement their income. (Thinking of you, BG).
