Talk about perseverance. Only five years ago Geraint Thomas broke his pelvis in the opening stage of the Tour de France but still managed to finish the race. Yesterday, he became the first Welshman to ever win the Tour. He beat out the race favorite and his teammate Chris Froome, who has won the previous three years. SPORTING THE YELLOW JERSEY
Overtime
The Atlanta Braves (MLB – Major League Baseball) announcers ripped their weekend opponent, the Los Angeles Dodgers, for their batting practice attire. Players are not mandated by MLB to wear certain attire to batting practice, which happens hours before a game, but these two broadcasters lost their minds for the “lack of respect” presented. The reaction from the Dodgers coaches and players (including suggested attire – speedos anyone)? is worth the price of admission. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS

American Lawson Craddock fell early in the Tour de France, fractured his scapula and cut his eye so badly it needed stitches but he carried on saying he trained to hard not to finish. (He finished in last place). As if that determination wasn’t enough, he raised over $224,000 (as of Monday morning), more than doubling his goal, to help rebuild the track he trained at in Houston that was destroyed in Hurricane Harvey. It’s back to school today for LeBron James and he has the first day jitters. His I Promise School for at-risk third and fourth graders opens today in Akron, Ohio. James has spent his career giving back to education, specifically helping children with difficult backgrounds. He said today’s opening will be one of the greatest moments of his life. BEST DAY EVER

With the NFL (National Football League) season around the corner, there is still controversy around the national anthem along with a new rule to prevent unnecessary head contact, which is making players’ heads hurt with frustration and confusion. - You look good in yellow. Britain’s Chris Froome won his third consecutive Tour de France and his fourth overall Tour title yesterday. After 23 grueling days, he received prize money valued at $572,000. (See below where four days of golf lands you $1.8 million).
PGA (Professional Golfers Association)
- Youth prevails. At 23 years old, Jordan Spieth became the youngest American to ever win The Open (aka The British Open). He overcame a horrific early round with one shot that was so bad we could’ve hit it, to bring home the win and $1.8 million in prize money.
WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association)
- Winning and looking good while doing it. The WNBA All-Star Game was in Seattle this weekend and not only did the West beat the East, but they also brought their A game when it came to their shoes. If you’re looking for a new pair of kicks, these ladies rocked it.

- Where do athletes go during games to pee? (Don’t act like you’ve never been curious). They can’t simply leave the field when nature calls. Here’s a funny sneak peek into what athletes do when there are no other options. All we’re saying is choose your sideline Gatorade cup carefully.

- Discovery Channel kicked off its Shark Week by pitting Olympian Michael Phelps against a great white shark. Spoiler alert! They didn’t actually race in the ocean side by side and some viewers were not happy about that. Apparently they don't care about killing off an American treasure. Regardless, the shark utilized the home field advantage of the shark infested, cold South African waters to beat Phelps by two seconds.

- The U.S. Men’s National Team beat Costa Rica to advance to the Gold Cup finals on Wednesday against Jamaica. Why is this match so important? Well, Team U.S.A. has some work to do to become an international soccer powerhouse. This tournament is like a dress rehearsal for the World Cup because it gives them a chance to play against some great competition a year before the world’s biggest sporting event.

- A force to be reckoned with. The Tour's defending champion Chris Froome is hanging onto the overall lead in this grueling race. - Swinging in the rain. It’s day two of The Open in England. (The Open – also known as The British Open - is the third of four Major tournaments in golf). The tournament is currently being led by three Americans who will have to brave the Irish Sea’s elements to win.
College Football
- Just plain wrong. After six questionable seasons at Ole Miss, head football coach Hugh Freeze has resigned. A U.S.A. Today investigation revealed that the coach’s phone records featured a plethora of calls on a school-issued phone to a number associated with an escort service. The university promptly escorted him out.
Overtime
- Sports Illustrated released its list of the Fashionable 50 in sports. The NBA (National Basketball Association) MVP, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook, also claimed the title of fashion MVP for his eccentric dressing. Tom Brady, Misty Copeland and Serena Williams are a few of the other athletes at the top of the list.

- The Houston Rockets (NBA) are for sale. Leslie Alexander bought the team in 1993 for $85 million. Forbes estimates the team’s value at $1.65 billion, the eighth most valuable NBA franchise. Shall we all pool our money?
