1. College bands were originally called upon to play the Star-Spangled Banner before the Super Bowl. Diana Ross was the first pop star to sing the anthem before the big game in 1982. The longest rendition of the anthem at the Super Bowl? Alicia Keys at two minutes and 35 seconds. Shortest? Jewel at 1 minute 27 seconds. THAT WAS QUICK
2. Roseanne Barr’s performance at a San Diego Padres (MLB – Major League Baseball) game was not music to your ears. Her shrieking of the anthem (and crotch grab afterward) reminded us that she should never quit her day job. THIS IS WHY A MUTE BUTTON WAS INVENTED
3. Another not-so-fan favorite? Fergie’s “outside the box" rendition at the NBA (National Basketball Association) All-Star Game that had even the players trying not to laugh. LISTEN AT YOUR OWN RISK

5. Singing the anthem before a sporting event wasn’t always a thing. The tradition started in baseball where the song would be sung on the opening day of a season or for special occasions/holidays. It wasn’t sung every game because the powers that be didn’t want to “cheapen it.” That eventually changed to the tradition we know now. HISTORY

If something works and the team is winning, they’ll keep up the tradition no matter how embarrassing. “I Will Always Love You” has become the theme song of the San Diego Padres. What started as a prank turned into nightly (awful) serenade but they’re winning so there you have it. YOUR EARS WILL NOT LOVE YOU

The NFL (National Football League) off-season has stirred up a lot of questions with the most important being, which NFL quarterback can chug a beer the fastest? Aaron Rodgers started this unofficial frat boy contest by attempting to chug a beer on the jumbotron at a basketball game and it wasn’t pretty. Therefore, other quarterbacks had to show him up and Chicago Bears Mitch Trubisky may have taken the cake by chugging a beer in mere seconds. IS THERE AN ALL-STAR TEAM FOR THAT?

The curse of Drake lives on. Drake is known for hanging out with winners who just can’t seem to win after they hang out with the rapper. Enter boxer Anthony Joshua. He was the shoo-in for Saturday night’s fight. Then he was TKO’d (technical knock out) in the seventh round by the people’s champion, Anthony Ruiz Jr. Ruiz’s win had people everywhere rethinking their summer diets. ABS OF STEEL ARE NOT NECESSARY

College Basketball
The Final Four teams in the NCAA College Basketball March Madness tournament are set. Both Auburn and Texas Tech are heading to their first Final Four in school history. The head coach of Virginia is making his first trip to the Final Four and Michigan State, well…welcome back. The games will take place on Saturday. YOU’LL NEVER FORGET YOUR FIRST

San Diego is the home of the Padres (MLB – Major League Baseball) and of course, Ron Burgundy. The Padres paid tribute to the Channel 4 news team from the movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy in their new mascot race. Yes, the large headed versions of Ron Burgundy, Champ Kind, Brian Fantana and Brick Tamland raced around the track with Mr, Burgundy taking home the win in the inaugural race.
