PGA (Professional Golfers Association): $18M Man
While Viktor Hovland might not have clinched his first major golf championship just yet, he's undoubtedly waking up with a smile that stretches as wide as the fairway. The Norwegian golfer secured a whopping $18M in winnings after emerging victorious at the season-ending FedEx Cup Playoffs. Hovland held his nerve and finished with a comfortable four-shot lead, pocketing a jaw-dropping payday that most of us can only imagine.
Women’s World Cup: Spain’s Football President Under Fire
Spain's Women's National team won the World Cup a week ago, but it's the kiss that is on everyone's minds. Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish Football Federation, finds himself embroiled in a storm he kissed one of his players on the mouth during the World Cup medal ceremony." Despite calls for his resignation, Rubiales is standing his ground, and this decision has ignited a firestorm of reactions. The fallout has been far-reaching, with the women's national football (aka soccer) coaching staff (all but the head coach) and some federation members resigning. Decorated men's national team members refuse to play with Rubiales at the helm. It's a tangled web of drama that's casting a shadow over Spain's triumphant World Cup victory.
NFL (National Football League) Roster Shuffle
For NFL fans, this weekend isn't just about touchdowns and tackles; it's also about the nail-biting anticipation of roster decisions. In an unprecedented move, the NFL has decided to skip the usual roster cutdown to 75 players during the preseason. Instead, teams will make a one-time reduction, slicing the roster from 90 players to 53 by the looming August 29 deadline. With around 1,200 players hitting the open market, it's a game of musical chairs as teams scramble to finalize their lineups and fill up their practice squads before the regular season begins on Thursday, September 7.
Before we go
Simone Biles has made history yet again, winning her 8th all-around national title at the US Gymnastics Championships. Biles' routines were nothing short of breathtaking, as she effortlessly executed moves that no other female gymnast has dared to attempt in competition.
The El Segundo, CA team represented the US against the world in the Little League World Series and clinched a dramatic victory with a walk-off home run. They beat the Pabao Little League from Curacao.

Women's World Cup
Despite their distaste for their coach and the soccer federation, Spain won its first-ever Women's World Cup defeating England 1-0. Olga Carmona was the hero scoring the match's only goal, but tragedy struck as she learned shortly after the game that her father had passed away. Reports say Carmona's father is understood to have died on Friday, but it was kept from her. Carmona's Instagram post confirms the news was withheld from her ahead of Sunday's game.
Another story to note, during the World Cup's traditional on-field medal ceremony, Spanish soccer president Luis Rubiales kissed midfielder Jenni Hermoso on the lips.
MLS (Major League Soccer)
Lionel Messi has dominated the league in his first month in the MLS. His Inter Miami FC team won the League's Cup this weekend, beating Nashville. Reese Witherspoon, co-owner of Nashville SC, and Nicole Kidman were on hand to join Miami's owners, Victoria and David Beckham.
A fun fast - none of the Messi-fueled victories have helped Miami in the actual standing as they sit in last place. The Leagues Cup is a tournament put on by the confederation (Concacaf) and features the 29 MLS clubs and 18 Liga MX teams in a World Cup-style tournament. But in all fairness, it's a step in the right direction.
Before we go
In tennis, 19-year-old Coco Gauff is holding her own, becoming the youngest player to win the Cincinnati tournament. It's her third title of the year.
In the news of things we wish we could do now, let alone at 71. Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was caught on camera throwing an impressive touchdown pass during practice which had fans like Snoop Dogg and Will Ferrell commenting, saying he's making his young player vying for a job look bad.

Monday Minute: The Matildas Are On Fire, "Cotton Eye Joe," + Gratitude Abounds At The Hall Of Fame

Women's World Cup
The Matildas of Australia caused quite a stir this weekend. Australia and France played an epic match that took 20 penalty kicks to win, with the host country defeating France to advance to the semifinals for the first time. There were many videos of fans' anticipation and celebration over the win. On Wednesday, they will face an England team in Sydney. England will be without their star player Lauren James. England beat Columbia over the weekend. The winner heads to the finals.
NBA (National Basketball Association) Hall of Fame
Dwyane Wade gave credit to his dad in his Hall of Fame speech. He spoke to him during the last 2.5 minutes saying in part, "You pushed me to limits that I didn't know were inside of me. The hard work I put in was because I didn't want to let you down." He then invited his dad to the stage in a heartwarming moment that made social media melt.
Before we go
After the cardiac arrest on the field last season, Damar Hamlin made his preseason debut for the Buffalo Bills this weekend.
Lilia Vu started Sunday tied and then went on a heater to win the British Open by six shots. It's Vu's second major championship of the season, and she's happy about the prize money, up 23% from last year's Open. She's the first American woman to win multiple majors in the same season since 1999.
In the funniest story of the weekend, top-ranked American Jessica Pegula picked up one of the biggest career wins by upsetting No. 1 Iga Swiatek in set finals at the Canadian Open. However, the talk of the match is when "Cotton Eye Joe" randomly starts playing during a crucial point in the game. Pegula was obviously motivated by "Cotton Eye Joe" (how could you not be?) and won the title on Sunday, her first win of the season.
