Monday Minute: Ladies First In Paris, Heisman Trophy Winners Do Cry + “I’m Gonna Throw Up”
A better start to the week than a cup of coffee.
Today’s Monday Minute is your gateway to the latest sports updates, game-changing moments and heartwarming stories.
Women's College Basketball Takes Paris by Storm
In a historic moment, the women's college basketball season will tip off in the City of Light as No. 6 South Carolina faces off against No. 10 Notre Dame. This marks the first-ever women's basketball game in Paris, and the excitement is palpable. The game kicks at 1 PM ET on Monday on ESPN, giving fans a taste of international basketball action.
But the excitement doesn't stop there; the defending National Champion LSU Tigers are starting their season in Las Vegas against the No. 20 Colorado Buffaloes. The return of the Preseason SEC Player of the Year, Angel Reese, adds even more anticipation to LSU's season. Her remarkable performance last season, both on and off the court, led LSU to a championship win.
LSU's head coach, Kim Mulkey, is known for her flamboyant outfits adorned with feathers, sequins and much more. Colorado has encouraged their coach, JR Payne, to drop the sweatshirt and bring her A-game courtside tonight. The game is on tonight on TNT at 7:30 PM ET.
College Football Drama and Defending Heisman Winner's Emotional Moment
The emotional aftermath of a college football game made headlines when Caleb Williams, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, was captured getting emotional with his parents after a tough loss. His heartfelt statement, "I want to go home and cuddle with my dog and watch some shows," resonated with fans.
Meanwhile, the USC defense has been struggling, and the blame game led to the departure of defensive coordinator Alex Grinch. Since Lincoln Riley's arrival at USC, Grinch's defense consistently let down the offense, resulting in a disappointing 52-42 loss to Washington. This ignited calls for Grinch's firing, which ultimately became a reality.
A Shocking Revelation in Wrexham
In the season two premiere of the Hulu series "Welcome to Wrexham," Wrexham AFC co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney faced a surprising revelation. The club has incurred substantial financial losses since the duo took control in 2021 to the tune of $12M, which led Reynolds to declare, “I‘m going to throw up.” Despite the challenges, the global appeal they've generated is expected to offset these additional costs. Last season, the team won their first league title in 45 years, which has propelled the club to the EFL's League Two, the fourth tier of English football. Even royalty noticed when the King of England, King Charles, and Queen Camilla visited the team last December.
Before We Go
In the New York City Marathon, Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola had an incredible victory in the men's professional race, setting a new open division course record at 2:04:58 . "Today" show correspondent Sheinelle Jones made her marathon debut, finishing strong in 4 hours, 41 minutes, and 19 seconds.
Ryan Blaney raced to his first NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) championship, securing a thrilling victory by outdueling contender Kyle Larson at Phoenix Raceway.

Monday Minute: “Coach Prime” On SNL, An Expensive Selfie + A Historic Interview
Small talk, delivered.
It's a brand new week, and we're here to get you up to speed with all the exciting happenings in the world of sports. Whether you're a die-hard fan or just dipping your toes into the sporting waters, there's something for everyone to discuss. So grab your coffee, get cozy, and dive into this week's sports conversation starters.
Baseball Buzz: A Game-Changing Interview
While the San Francisco Giants didn't make it to the playoffs this year, they're making their own headlines. They've granted an interview to Alyssa Nakken, a Giants assistant coach, for the head coaching position – a first for a woman in Major League Baseball. This is a significant milestone; we can't wait to see where this leads.
The road toward the World Series continues for The Houston Astros and Texas Rangers (the Rangers are up 1-0 in this five-game series). The Arizona Diamondbacks take on the Philadelphia Phillies starting tonight in the NLCS.
WNBA (WOmen’s National Basketball Association) Drama: Liberty's Stand and Aces' Setback
We've got a nail-biter in the WNBA Finals. The New York Liberty defended their home turf against the Las Vegas Aces in Game 3, but the Aces are still up 2-1 in the best-of-five series. The Aces sustained a notable injury with Aces' point guard and defending finals MVP, Chelsea Gray, going out of the game. It's looking pretty serious, and her return is uncertain. Game 4 is Wednesday at 8 pm ET.
NFL (National Football League) Adventures: Surprises and Selfies
It's been a rollercoaster of a season in the NFL, and we love every twist and turn. This weekend, we all collectively gasped at the pictures of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift holding hands after a date night and surprise appearances on “Saturday Night Live.” But after week six, no team remains undefeated. The New York Jets beat the Philadelphia Eagles for the first time in franchise history, ending their perfect season. The Jets might've found inspiration in their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, who's miraculously back on the field just weeks after a massive Achilles surgery. (The San Francisco 49ers also lost their undefeated streak).
Now, let's talk about the touchdown celebration of the week. The crown goes to Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins. He pulled off a jaw-dropping selfie in the middle of a backflip in the end zone. It's a move worth watching, and we're eager to see if the league fines him for this epic celebration.
Weekend Laughs: Coach Prime on “SNL”
Finally, a bit of laughter to wrap up the update. Keenan Thompson made us chuckle as Coach Prime on “Saturday Night Live's” Weekend Update. If you need a good laugh, click here to head over to SNL's Instagram page to catch the sketch.
And before we let you go, don't forget to check out our Super Fan sweatshirt collection at lastnightsgame.com. We have them in all your favorite team colors to keep you cozy and stylish as you cheer for your favorite athletes.
We hope you have a fantastic week ahead, filled with victories on and off the field. Stay strong, stay passionate, and don't be afraid to break some barriers, just like Alyssa Nakken.

It's a best-of-five series, so there's more excitement to come.
Tom Brady's Ownership Adventures
Speaking of Tom Brady, he's been making waves not only as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Aces but also trying to get a piece of the Las Vegas Raiders. But he has more hurdles to jump through before being approved by the NFL. Keep an eye on the Raiders' Monday Night Football game against the Packers tonight, as the Vegas Golden Knights will be in attendance with the Stanley Cup trophy ahead of the NHL season kickoff tomorrow.
MLB Playoffs
Wild card teams stole the spotlight this weekend in the MLB playoffs. The Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks secured Game 1 wins in their division series. Even the Astros, with their first-round bye, managed to win. These teams are riding high on momentum, and we're in for some intense series ahead.
