ESPN College Gameday is heading to College Station, TX to cover the game between the second-ranked Clemson Tigers and the Texas A&M Aggies this Saturday. The WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) Finals start tonight. The Washington Mystics are making their finals debut, playing against the Seattle Storm. And in perfect timing, a former WNBA icon will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame this weekend. Tina Thompson, the first-ever WNBA draft pick, has sealed a place of honor. GIRL POWER

WHAT TO WATCH

As an incredible ending to an inspiring story of hard work and perseverance, rookie Shaquem Griffin will be starting for the Seattle Seahawks (NFL) on Sunday. Griffin defied the odds, being drafted in the fifth round and now this. And what makes this such a big deal? He accomplished it all with one hand, which was amputated at a young age. READ MORE

TENNIS

A family affair. Sisters Serena and Venus Williams will face off in the third round of the U.S. Open tournament today. This is super early for the two to come head-to-head; the superstars usually don't get matched up until the very end of a tournament. No one can know for sure who will knock the other out this time around, but Venus hasn't beaten Serena in a Grand Slam event since 2008. SORRY, SISTER.

OVERTIME

You wouldn't expect a professional football player to speak at a politician's funeral, but that's exactly what happened yesterday. Arizona Cardinals' (NFL- National Football League) player Larry Fitzgerald shared beautiful words at senator John McCain's memorial service. He says the two became friends, despite their obvious differences, because McCain truly cared about his heart. PASS THE TISSUE.

One star. That's all Amazon is getting for their coverage of the U.S. Open. Hundreds of customers relying on the streaming service to watch the tournament are complaining about poor picture quality and the inability to rewatch matches. COACHES' CORNER

The Northern Illinois Huskies (college football) are gearing up to participate in a special tradition when they play at Iowa this weekend. They plan to participate in the "Hawkeye Wave," arguably the sweetest tradition in college football in which the whole stadium waves up at the kids watching the game from from a children's hospital that overlooks the stadium. The Huskies even prepared a video to share their excitement about joining the joyful moment. WATCH IT HERE.

WHAT TO WATCH

College Gameday (a fun, early-morning pre-game show on ESPN) is celebrating 25 years this weekend with a big bash in South Bend, IN- the place where it all began. They'll be covering the game between home team Notre Dame and old rival Michigan. Fans are likely to be pretty wound up during the live show, as the teams seem to be taking the game very seriously. South Bend even changed the name of downtown road "Michigan Street" to "Fighting Irish Drive." TAKING THINGS TOO FAR.

MLB (Major League Baseball)

Express yourself. It’s Players' Weekend this weekend and that means it’s a chance for the players to express themselves using their nicknames on the back of their specially designed jerseys, wear individualized custom cleats and hot glue thank you patches to someone who has impacted their career on their jerseys. (Okay we made up the hot glue part). Joey "Pico de" Gallo and Shane "Not Justin" Bieber are just two of the winners in the nickname department to look forward to this weekend. Overtime

Oakland Raiders (NFL – National Football League) player Marshawn Lynch has long been obsessed with Skittles, eating them during games and even wearing custom Skittles cleats. This week, the candy company made Lynch the first athlete ever to be featured on a Skittles bag and subsequently shipped him a whole boatload of his special edition candy that he rolled around in gleefully. Sideline stat

The prize money for the matchup between golfers Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods is set. The veteran golfers will play each other Thanksgiving weekend in Las Vegas for a cool $9 million. As expected, the two have begun trash talking on Twitter, which Mickelson recently joined. GRUMPY OLD MEN

Coaches’ corner

In a sweet story that we never want to see, 11-year-old Caleb Hammond has terminal cancer. The big NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) fan took to Twitter to ask for racing stickers so he can decorate his casket. Race car drivers everywhere, including a slew of NASCAR drivers, have stepped up, shipping him autographed items, stickers, and even taking him for a ride in a race car. HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP

What to watch

This weekend is all about the Little League Baseball World Series. Saturday, the teams from Georgia and Hawaii will face off to determine the winner of the U.S. bracket. The winner of that game will play the winner of the international bracket (Japan or South Korea) on Sunday for the title of the best in the world. BREAK OUT THE CRACKER JACKS
