A Reason To Celebrate

There’s a new champ in town, you thought you got excited about your AM coffee and who’s rolling in the dough.

Whether it’s becoming the best in the world, first time experiences or simply making it until Friday, let’s celebrate.

Glad you’re here,

The Last Night’s Game Team

NBA (National Basketball Association)

There’s a new champion in the NBA. Last night the Toronto Raptors became NBA champions for the first time in franchise history beating the Golden State Warriors at home. Steph Curry and his Warriors won the last two NBA championships. DRAKE WAS OVER THE MOON

Overtime

“Trendsetter” Memphis Grizzlies coach and former NBA player, Nick Van Exel just discovered the next best thing, iced coffee. It absolutely blew his mind and he took to Twitter to tell the world about it…for those who’ve missed this budding trend. WELCOME TO THE PARTY

Side note – If his name sounds familiar, there’s a Nick Van Exel name-drop by Jay-Z on Beyonce's "Crazy In Love."

Sideline Stat

Soccer stars dominate the top spots in this year’s Forbes list of the world's highest-paid athletes. Lionel Messi brings home enough bacon to secure the top spot followed by Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar. The NBA is the most dominate sport with 35 players in the top 100 and Serena Williams is the highest ranked woman at #63. SHAKE YOUR MONEY MAKER

Coaches’ corner

Ahead of the College Baseball World Series, last night the Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals played the first ever MLB (Major League Baseball) game in Nebraska at the home of the famed college tournament, Omaha. SURELY WARREN BUFFETT WAS EXCITED

What to watch

Golfer Brooks Koepka is seeking a three-peat at this week’s U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, which is the PGA’s (Professional Golfers Association) third major golf tournament. What he’s hoping doesn’t repeat is when announcer Joe Buck called Koepka’s girlfriend the wrong name live on TV. Even worse, it was his ex-girlfriend’s name. The two poked fun at the situation this week with a hilarious video. SOMEBODY SPENT THE NIGHT IN THE BUNKER

Donut Judge Me

It’s Nat’l Donut Day! Who’s banned from basketball, why not play with a broken jaw and diamonds are Tom Brady’s BFF?

LNG General Graphic-02 (1).png

It’s National Donut Day so indulge today and then drink to forget about it tomorrow on National Rosé Day.

Oh if I must,

The Last Night’s Game Team

NBA (National Basketball Association)

Injuries continue to plague the defending NBA Champion Golden State Warriors in the Finals, with the Toronto Raptors up 2-1 in the series. To add insult to injury (pun intended), one of their minority owners shouted an obscenity at a Raptors player and shoved him during the last game. Mark Stevens has been fined $500,000 by the NBA and banned from attending games for one year. COME AT ME BRO

Overtime

If you thought you were a champ for showing up to work today, wait until you read this. Boston Bruins player Zdeno Chara broke his jaw in game four of the NHL (National Hockey League) Stanley Cup Finals but he played in game five last night, broken jaw and all. Sadly, his grit didn’t equal a win as the St. Louis Blues pulled within one game of winning it all. PROOF THAT HOCKEY PLAYERS ARE HARDCORE

The final leg of the Triple Crown takes place at Belmont on Saturday. The winner of the Preakness (one of the three Triple Crown races), War Of Will is hoping to win two of the three big races. (The Kentucky Derby is the third race of the Triple Crown). HOLD YOUR HORSES

Coaches’ corner

If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, then the New England Patriots (NFL - National Football League) are a sorority. The team received their Super Bowl rings yesterday and, put on your sunglasses, they’re blinding. Tom Brady celebrated receiving his sixth Super Bowl ring by joining in the now viral quarterbacks' off-season challenge, chugging an entire beer in two gulps. GREATEST OF ALL TIME?

What to watch

The FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off today. Team U.S.A. are the defending champions and they will play in their first game on Tuesday vs. Thailand. There’s so much excitement happening around this monumental event. Check out our Five Things You Need To Know About The Women’s World Cup to catch all the storylines and the action. How Do I Get There From Here?

A controversial end to the National Spelling Bee, food wars are on & calling all soccer fans.

Be the smartest person in the room.

Easy peasy,

The Last Night’s Game Team

National Spelling Bee

In a controversial ending to last night’s Scripps National Spelling Bee, for the first time ever, there were eight winners. They were all so good that Scripps ran out of words to challenge them with, even though they threw out words like "Stakhanovite" and "marmennill" (which spell check doesn’t even recognize).  WE’RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER DICTIONARY

Overtime

While the NBA Finals (NBA - National Basketball Association) have the Golden State Warriors facing off against the Toronto Raptors, the real finals battle is between Taco Bell and Chipotle. Chipotle is giving away up to $1 million in free burritos to fans that take to Twitter every time the on-air announcer says “free.” Not to be outdone, Taco Bell is giving away free tacos when the away team wins a game. AND THE WINNER IS …YOUR WALLET

Sideline Stat

Last night, the Golden State Warriors took an unexpected hit. For the first time in their dynasty, they lost in Game One of the NBA Finals. The Toronto Raptors, supported by super fan Drake, beat the Warriors to become the first ever Canadian team to win a finals game and have a 1-0 lead in the finals. OH CANADA

The Premier Lacrosse League debuts tomorrow. Started by a former player (he’s known as lacrosse’s LeBron James), they’ve disrupted the traditional sports business model with a tour-based league (i.e. - no home cities) and no team owners (more money to pay players). They’re also providing a vesting schedule to give players equity in the league. LET’S DO THIS

What to watch

Get excited because the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Champions League Final is on Saturday. It’s essentially the Super Bowl of European club soccer, i.e. a big deal. In their first ever final, Tottenham Hotspur will take on Liverpool. It’s only the second time two English teams have faced off in the final. GOOOOAAAAL
