The bottle cap challenge is all the rage, how the U.S. Women broke a monumental record and why you might want to become a vegetarian.

Women’s World Cup

If you think everyone is excited about Sunday’s finals game between the U.S. and the Netherlands, you’d be right. Proud U.S. Soccer fans have made the U.S. Women's home jersey the number one soccer jersey, men's or women's, ever sold on Nike.com in one season. (The game is Sunday at 11 am EST). HEY LOOK MA I MADE IT

With the soar in popularity of women’s soccer, ESPN picked up the television rights to the second half of the National Women's Soccer League season, which starts back after the World Cup. BIG FAN

Overtime

The queen of tennis, Serena Williams, has been entertaining a royal audience at Wimbledon. Meghan Markle attended a match and watched her dear friend advance to the next round. Kate Middleton also attended one of Williams’ matches. Markle and Williams met at the 2010 Super Bowl and became fast friends.

Also, drawing major attention after beating Venus Williams in the first round is 15-year-old Coco Gauff, the youngest competitor in the tournament, who has advanced to the third round. PLAY ON

Sideline stat

He didn’t break his own record but professional eater Joey Chestnut still had an epic day that would make most of us vomit. He downed 71 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes to win the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest. Chestnut’s closest competitor ate 50 hot dogs/buns. WORLD DOMINATION

Coaches’ Corner

The new celebrity challenge hitting the internet is the bottle cap challenge. Can you unscrew a bottle cap on a bottle with a kick? John Mayer succeeded and Blake Shelton didn’t. Regardless, it’s funny watching them try. DON’T FORGET TO STRETCH FIRST

What to watch

In case you want an all soccer Sunday, the U.S. Men’s soccer team is playing Mexico in the finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup Sunday night in Chicago. (CONCACAF - pronounced CON-kuh-kaff - stands for the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football). The biennial tournament crowns the champion of our continent. Going Global

Could “Chubs” be a new team name, why all the cool people are in Europe this weekend and what does lucky bamboo have to do with it?

Grab your passport and here’s a little something to talk about with your seatmate on the plane.

Hello world!

The Last Night’s Game Team

Women’s World Cup

It’s all on the line in today’s France-United States Women’s World Cup game. The ticket prices are through the roof for this highly anticipated loser goes home game between the host country (France) and the defending champions (U.S.A). If you’re going to watch a game, this is it. Besides it’s a good excuse for an early happy hour or a drinking lunch with the game starting at 3 pm EST. WE’LL DRINK TO THAT

Overtime

One Grand Junction Rockies fan (the minor league baseball team for the Colorado Rockies – MLB – Major League Baseball) wanted the team to change their mascot to something unique to Grand Junction. He landed on the fish called the Humpback Chub. Others heard about this possible name change and it started trending on Twitter. The team wasn’t having it and made a slightly awkward statement proclaiming that by suggesting that they would be called the GJ “Chubs” is offensive. OH TO BE A FLY ON THE WALL DURING THAT DISCUSSION

Sideline stat

We’ve heard of lucky bamboo but it saving a baseball team’s season? The Philadelphia Phillies (MLB) were on a seven-game losing streak until their second baseman brought in a bamboo plant. Now they’re on a four game winning streak. SHARE THE WEALTH?

Coaches’ corner

It seems like everyone is in Europe this weekend including the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. The rival teams are playing the first-ever regular season MLB games in London. Baseball is quite foreign to the country but the games are still expected to draw larger crowds than the Cricket World Cup, a much more popular sport in England (see Ed Sheeran), that’s also in town. (For the record, Prince Harry will be at Saturday’s baseball game).

And in case you needed further proof that the Red Sox aren’t like the rest of us, they flew “the most luxurious jet in the world” to London, costing the team $500,000 for the six hour journey. WHO NEEDS DRINK COUPONS?

What to watch

It’s going to be Sunday Funday for some NBA (National Basketball Association) teams because NBA free agency starts on Sunday. That’s when teams are able to approach players on other teams and a lot of high profile players will be on the move. IS THERE A FLOW CHART FOR THAT?

It's Int'l Yoga Day so why is Carrie Underwood being sued, who’s working out a custody agreement of a team and who’s headed out to pasture?

General Graphic #2 (June)-01.png

On this International Yoga Day, stretch your mind into the world of sports and be one with great conversation.

Namaste,

The Last Night’s Game Team

MLB (Major League Baseball)

Just when you think you’ve heard it all, think again. In an unusual scenario, the Tampa Bay Rays received permission from MLB to explore the idea of playing their first half of the season in Florida and the second half in Montreal. Montreal used to have a team before it moved to Washington, D.C. Why? Weather, lack of attendance in Tampa Bay, a need for a new stadium in FL. It's far from happening but is not inconceivable. BUT WILL THERE BE DIRECT FLIGHTS?

Overtime

Carrie Underwood, NBC and the NFL (National Football League) are being sued over the “Sunday Night Football” theme song. Underwood has been singing the intro tune since 2018, but another singer alleges Underwood flat out stole the song from her. YOU BE THE JUDGE

Sideline stat

The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team had another dominant win yesterday, beating Sweden and winning their group in the group stage. They advance to the next round of 16 and will play Spain on Monday (Noon EST). WORLD CUP TROPHY OR BUST

Coaches’ Corner

Golfer Clement Berardo was disqualified but not because he did something heinous. But because he ran out of balls. He had a rough round and ran out of golf balls at the 15th hole and therefore was DQ’d. (He needed enough to play to the 18th hole). CAN’T HE FISH ONE OUT OF THE POND?

What To Watch

WWE’s (World Wrestling Entertainment) Nikki Bella, 35, is calling it quits. Neck and brain injuries are forcing her to retire. Her last match was against former UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fighter Ronda Rousey in WWE's all-women's pay-per-view Evolution in October. THROWING IN THE TOWEL
