MLS (Major League Soccer)
The 25th season of MLS starts this weekend and an old friend is back, David Beckham. He is the co-owner of one of the league’s two new teams, Inter Miami. What’s the one thing that’s different about his team’s uniforms than any other professional sport? Their colors are white, black and pink. The stadium will even have pink seats. The other new team taking the field this season is Nashville SC (Soccer Club). NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

Former Dallas Cowboys (NFL - National Football League) star Dez Bryant is hoping to make a return to his former team. Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones revealed that he has been thinking about Bryant and contemplating his return. In fact, he told reporters “I have been thinking about it a lot in the shower.” TMI JERRY

NFL teams do their due diligence on all of the aspiring football players trying out this week at the NFL Combine. Much to Ross Blacklock’s surprise, the Las Vegas Raiders informed him that he had 37 parking tickets. BETTER CLEAR YOUR BROWSER HISTORY STAT

Tennis’ Maria Sharapova is throwing in the towel after a decorated career on the court. At 32, she’ll be remembered for her Grand Slam wins and great endorsement contracts but also for being banned from the sport for 15 months for failing a performance enhancing drug test. HANGING UP THE RACKET
What to watch
The coronavirus is impacting sports around the world. From soccer in Italy where the teams will play but without fans in the stands, to quarantined MLB players to cancelled golf tournaments and postponed rugby matches and F1 (Formula One) races, the fear of the unknown is causing authorities to err on the side of caution. The boys of summer are back with spring training games starting today and MLB is certainly feeling the heat. ICYMI – The Houston Astros stole signs using technology during the season they won the World Series. The leagued fined them $5M (a drop in the bucket considering they pay pitcher Justin Verlander $25M/yr) but said they won’t go after the players involved. The team fired the head coach, general manager and then gave an uninspired apology. A handful of baseball players and now basketball’s LeBron James are using their platforms to share their outrage at MLB commissioner Rob Manfred over the light sentencing. TAKE ME OUT OF THE BALLGAME
FYI - All of the teams call Arizona (Cactus League) or Florida (Grapefruit League) home during spring training. SCHEDULE A LITTLE VITAMIN D

In preparation for his big matchup against Deontay Wilder on Saturday night in Las Vegas, boxer Tyson Fury revealed that he spent the past 10 weeks depriving himself of everything he loves, including seeing his family and Diet Coke. One may not equate Diet Coke to the love of their children but he was drinking 20-30 a day. All his pent-up frustrations came out at this week’s press conference where the two fighters got into it. It’s a big weekend for Dwyane Wade. The NBA (National Basketball Association) player retired from the game last season but his former team, the Miami Heat will spend the weekend celebrating his accomplishments from his 15-year career with the team. The culmination of the weekend’s excitement will be when they retire his jersey number (No. 3). Wade has been in the spotlight lately discussing his family life with his wife, actress Gabrielle Union and supporting his daughter Zaya who came out as transgender. HIS MOST IMPORTANT JOB
When a player’s jersey is retired, no one else can ever wear that jersey number for the team. In an unusual and puzzling move, the Heat retired Michael Jordan’s number (No. 23) even though he never played for the franchise.

After the loss of Kobe Bryant, it’ll be a somber NBA All-Star Game this weekend in Chicago. While it’ll be a muted celebration, expect to see the best of the best in Saturday’s skills and slam dunk competition. Sunday’s game will feature a new scoring system to honor Bryant (catch our Instagram story where we explain the new, confusing system). The teams will also honor the Bryants with Team LeBron (team captain) wearing #2 for Gianna and Team Giannis (also team captain) wearing #24 in honor of Kobe. Both teams will wear patches to honor all nine victims of the fatal helicopter crash that killed Gianna and Kobe Bryant. FOR THE LOVE OF BASKETBALL

We all know that college sports rivalries run deep with generations of distain for each other. Enter in Target (or Tar-jay depending on how fancy you are) who missed that memo. They misprinted and tried to sell infant onsies that said Minnesota Badgers. Now everyone from Minnesota (which is where Target is based) knows that the badger is the mascot of their rival Wisconsin, not the beloved mascot for the local university. Fans were so fired up that Target issued an official apology. SAY YOU’RE SORRY TO THE FUTURE GENERATION OF CONFUSED FANS

The Daytona 500 will kick off the NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) season on Sunday. It’ll be the 62nd running of the race that used to take place on the sands of Daytona Beach before they had a racetrack. The Thunderbirds will perform a flyover while Nalani Quintello, who was an “American Idol” contestant that withdrew from the competition to enlist in the Air Force, sings the national anthem. Dale Earnhardt Jr. will waive the green flag to start the race and the Grand Marshal of the Daytona 500, President Trump, will tell the drivers to “start their engines.” THE SUPER BOWL OF RACING

Things are getting wild in NASCAR so get those Twitter fingers ready because every time Kevin Harvick goes to pit (i.e get a tire change, fuel, clean his windshield) during Sunday’s Daytona 500, you’ll have a chance to win a car that looks like just his race car. Intrigued? Tweet using #Pit4Busch and #Sweepstakes during the pit stop, which usually lasts no more than 12 seconds, to be eligible. Harvick was the same driver last year who drove the Millennial Car featuring Millennials’ favorite sayings and items like avocado toast. FAST FINGERS
