The Time Has Come

Where to find BFFs Martha and Snoop Dogg this weekend, all things Super Bowl and LeBron is not happy about the all-star game.

Fire up the CrockPot, throw in some cheese and grab a glass of champagne. It’s time for the Super Bowl. We have you covered even if you don’t care about what’s happening on the field.

Come for the commercials, stay for the food,

The Last Night’s Game Team

NFL (National Football League)

It’s game time, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs will face off on Sunday for the title of champions. The big storyline of this game is the quarterbacks, who couldn’t be more different. Tom Brady, 43, is playing for his record 7th Super Bowl ring and Patrick Mahomes is hoping to be the youngest QB in league history to win back-to-back Super Bowls. While you’ll hear lots of old guy jokes about Brady, you should know that they're kind of true in this case. He’s the oldest QB in the league and one of the oldest players but is still a force to be reckoned with. Brady is only seven years younger than Mahomes’ dad, who happens to be a former professional baseball player. NO END IN SIGHT

Overtime

A wise person once said weekends are better with puppies. (Seems realistic, right)? Enter in BFFs Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg. The dynamic duo will host the annual tradition of the Puppy Bowl, which takes place every Super Bowl Sunday before the big game and features shelter dogs from across the U.S. All of the dogs are available for adoption. Stewart, 79, will be representing Team Ruff and Snoop, 49, Team Fluff. EVERYONE WINS

Sideline stat

Break out your stretchy pants because Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest calorie intake day in America after Thanksgiving. The average person will consume 11,000 calories - more than four and a half times the recommended daily calorie intake. But what are we enjoying? How about 1.3 billion chicken wings, the most popular Super Bowl food, 325 million gallons of beer (Coors Light is the most popular, followed by Miller Lite and Bud Light) and 2 million pizzas. IS IT TIME FOR LUNCH YET?

Coaches’ corner

The most rambunctious tournament on the PGA (Professional Golfers Association) tour is undoubtedly the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, AZ. To say that parts of the tournament resemble something out of “Happy Gilmore” is an accurate statement. (Tiger Woods refuses to play in this tournament because someone once threw an orange at him). Well, this year is the quietest year the golfers have ever seen with only 5,000 fans per day, a change from the 100,000+ people a day. GOLF CLAP

What to watch

The NBA (National Basketball Association) is bringing back the all-star game this season after they said they wouldn't have one. One person not happy about it? LeBron James. He's not keen on bringing everyone in the league together in one place during COVID. He said he'll be there physically (if he's voted in) but not mentally. CONTAIN YOUR ENTHUSIASM

Another powerful female buys into a soccer team, the Pro Bowl is here and are the Olympics headed to the sunshine state?

We’re a little more than one week away from the biggest day in sports – the Super Bowl. The NFL announced that youth poet laureate, Amanda Gorman, will recite a poem before the Super Bowl. The 22-year-old’s original poem will honor three pandemic heroes that the NFL named honorary captains. It will be the first time a poet participates in the Super Bowl pregame festivities. A RISING STAR

As it stands, the Summer Olympics will take place in Japan, but it never hurts to have a plan B. That’s what the state of Florida thought when they offered to step in and host the Olympics should Japan back out. The home of the hanging chad boasts that they have been able to host multiple professional sporting events like the NBA (National Basketball Association) bubble, a UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) event and soon the Super Bowl. HERE THEY COME TO SAVE THE DAY

Another big name has joined the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League). Last year a whole host of celebrities and athletes, including Natalie Portman, Billie Jean King, Mia Hamm, Jennifer Garner and Eva Longoria, to name a few, joined the ownership team for Angel City FC. Now tennis’ three-time Grand Slam champion and social justice advocate Naomi Osaka has purchased an ownership stake in the NWSL’s North Carolina Courage. The Courage is one of the 10 teams in the league. SHARE THE LOVE

Keeping with the tradition of events going virtual, the Pro Bowl (the NFL’s All-Star Game) has gone remote. Players will compete by playing a Madden video matchup on Sunday instead of playing in a live game. Unlike the traditional game, players like Snoop Dogg and NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) driver Bubba Wallace will join the NFL All-Stars team. FINALLY, NO WORRYING ABOUT CONCUSSIONS

Friday Feeling

Have no fear, Friday is here.

Is it too early for happy hour?

The Last Night’s Game Team

NFL (National Football League)

Sunday is the big day to find out which two teams will head to the Super Bowl on February 7. The Buffalo Bills fans hope their karma from the amassing of donations to Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson’s favorite charity will pay off when they take on the defending Super Bowl champs, the Kansas City Chiefs. It looks like Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes could play after suffering a concussion in last week’s game.

Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take on fellow superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in the second game. The Bucs blew out the Packers earlier in the season, but anything can happen with everything on the line. THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING US

PS – If you haven’t seen the Bills tailgate tradition of jumping through tables (you read that right), you’re in for a treat.

Overtime

Were you excited for Drake to drop his new album this month? Well, it appears Steph Curry may be to blame for its delay. The Golden State Warriors (NBA – National Basketball Association) star never directly addressed the rumors that Drake tore his ACL while guarding Curry in a pickup game, but that’s the conspiracy theory. In a recent interview with Complex Sports, he said, “Maybe it might show up in the new album coming out. We’ll see if he drops a lyric or a line or something on what actually happened.” ON THE EDGE OF OUR SEATS

Last week a disgruntled James Harden forced a trade from the Houston Rockets to the Brooklyn Nets (NBA). Now he’s left with a bit of an awkward situation. His restaurant “Thirteen by James Harden” is set to open today in Houston, where fans are really not pleased with his antics around his leaving. They’re already leaving awfully creative reviews for the not-quite-open-yet dining establishment. NEVER TRUST A SCORNED SPORTS FAN

Coaches’ corner

Fighter Conor McGregor is taking a break from hustling his whiskey brand, Proper No. Twelve, to head back into the octagon at UFC 257 (Ultimate Fighting Championship). The fight will take place on UFC’s Fight Island in Abu Dhabi on Saturday in front of fans. His opponent, Dustin Poirier, is seeking revenge for his 2014 loss to McGregor. At least something good will come out of the fight. Poirier auctions off his fight night attire to benefit his Good Fight Group that benefits his “hometown in Louisiana to help underserved communities - from food insecurity to health care and environmental disaster relief.” HARD KNOCKS

There were so many memorable moments during Wednesday’s inauguration, but the Bernie Sanders memes have taken the world by storm. From the hockey penalty box to being a part of the slam dunk contest, the sports world did not disappoint when it comes to Bernie memes. FRIDAY FUNNY
