NFL (National Football League)

Not a chance. Break out the participation trophies because after yesterday’s games, the dreams of making the playoffs died for the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants. At this point the Browns would probably be happy with winning one game this season, something they still haven’t done yet.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner. The winner of this weekend’s celebration dance goes to (drumroll please), the best team in the NFL - the Philadelphia Eagles. Even the players on the sideline took a break from playing tic-tac-toe to get in on this Electric Slide action.

Overtime

After making their official debut during the 2017 Invictus Games, Prince Harry and his actress girlfriend Meghan Markle announced they are engaged. The Invictus Games are the mastermind of Prince Harry and honor wounded soldiers as they compete in athletic, Olympic-style events. More on the engagement.

Sideline stat

There were big upsets in college football this weekend including number one ranked Alabama losing to Auburn (#6). The Tiger fans were so excited they rushed the field to celebrate. Someone is always the party pooper and the school was fined $250,000 for allowing “access to competition area.” We’d say that’s money well spent. Don’t worry, the fans still carried on the tradition of toilet papering the trees on campus too.

Coaches’ corner

Things got weird in the recent college basketball game between Alabama (#25) vs. Minnesota (#14). The entire Alabama team, minus five players, were ejected from the game for their role in a bench clearing brawl. Then two of those players weren’t able to play, so Alabama finished the game with three players against Minnesota’s five (the number of players on the court according to the rule book) and they almost won.

Get This Party Started

There’s no time like the present to brush up on your sports so you can give them something to talk about.

Small talk conquered,

The Last Night’s Game Team

College Football

Bling bling. If you’re looking for an unique holiday gift idea, the turnover chain is your answer. The Miami Hurricanes (#7) upset Notre Dame (#4) this weekend to return to football glory after a long drought. Part of the morale boost is credited to the turnover chain, a gold chain given to the defensive player who gets a turnover in the game. Somewhere Flavor Flav is jealous.

NFL (National Football League)

Pledging allegiance. The anthem protests caused fans in some cities to threaten a boycott of games this weekend. On the contrary, the NFL saw an increase in attendance this weekend. It also saw very few players kneeling before the game as the league celebrated Veterans Day weekend by honoring the military.

Overtime

Since the NFL lifted the celebration rules this year we have seen some great touchdown dances. Last week brought us the potato sack race and this week, a game of Vikings leap frog. WATCH

Sideline stat

And then there was one. The San Francisco 49ers (NFL) won their first game of the season, beating the New York Giants. After 10 weeks into the season, the Cleveland Browns are the only winless team left in the league.

Coaches’ corner

Next weekend is the last race of the NASCAR (National Association For Stock Car Auto Racing) season. During that race we’ll see Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr. and Brad Keselowski competing for the championship in Miami.

The Times They Are A-Changin'

This weekend brought us a time change, another Diddy/Puff Daddy name change (call him Brother Love) and athletes wanting to make a change.

NFL (National Football League)

We salute you. In honor of the U.S. Military, teams were on trend yesterday in camo accented uniforms. As part of the NFL’s Salute to Service week, for every tweet with the hashtag #SalutetoService, the NFL will donate $5 to select military nonprofits. You have until Saturday so get tweeting for a good cause.

Use your head. There was a big UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fight on Saturday night and apparently NFL players decided to emulate their actions. There were three different brawls during yesterday’s games. Note to self, fighting against guys in helmets while not wearing yours is not a smart move. SEE IT HERE

Overtime

From winning the World Series on Wednesday to marrying supermodel Kate Upton in Italy on Saturday, Houston Astros pitcher (Major League Baseball) Justin Verlander has had one epic week. WEDDING PICS

Sideline stat

Yesterday’s NYC Marathon saw American Shalane Flanagan take home the win for the women at an impressive time of 2 hours, 26 minutes, 53 seconds. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, she’s also the first woman American in 40 years to win the race. To think, we felt accomplished getting out of our pajamas by noon.

Coaches’ corner

It was the annual Las Vegas Shriners Open golf tournament this weekend. While he didn’t win it all, the real star was UNLV (University of Nevada – Las Vegas) graduate and Vegas resident Charlie Hoffman. Hoffman donated 100% of his 18th place earnings to the victims of the Vegas shootings, roughly $56,000. #VegasStrong

PS - What is targeting? How does the NFL pick which teams play each other in a season? Curious questions like that are what motivated us to start Last Night’s Game and we want to answer them for you. Send us your burning questions to be answered during our question of the week.
