Is that even legal? Roger Federer hit a crazy, game-winning shot against Nick Kyrgios this weekend that had many people saying, "Wait, what??" But evidently it counts, and he's now heading to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open. Joining him are defending U.S. Open champions Rafael Nadal (men's bracket), Sloane Stephens (women's) and crowd favorite Serena Williams. SEE THE IMPRESSIVE SHOT.

OVERTIME

It was a special weekend for Maryland (college football) as they honored the life of Jordan McNair, a teammate who died of heatstroke during practice this summer. For their first offensive play, the team lined up with just 10 players (instead of the usual 11) to respect his memory. As the cherry on top, Maryland ended up beating Texas in that game - an unexpected upset. NO, WE'RE NOT CRYING...

SIDELINE STAT

Would you trust Kanye West with your NFL (National Football League) bracket? If so, you better have the Chicago Bears winning the Super Bowl. He praised his home team after they shockingly acquired top defensive player Khalil Mack in a trade from the Oakland Raiders. To sweeten the deal, the Bears set Mack up with a record-setting, six-year, $141 million extension. CHUMP CHANGE.

COACHES' CORNER

Alabama, the defending college football national champion, blew Louisville out of the water on Saturday, but oddly enough, Alabama coach Nick Saban was still a real grumpy old man after the win. In a postgame press conference, he snapped at an ESPN reporter who asked a pretty standard question about his quarterbacks. Even with his panties in a bunch, it was reported that he later apologized. TAKE IT EASY, MAN.

Little League Baseball World Series

Aloha champions. Providing their state with a much needed pick me up after Hurricane Lane, the team from Hawaii beat the South Korean team to claim the title of Little League Baseball World Series Champions. The Hawaiians and their opponents then engaged in an unusual series tradition, collecting a handful of infield dirt in baggies to commemorate their playing time. BRINGING SAND TO THE BEACH

Overtime

Week one of college football starts this Thursday but the University of South Carolina Gamecocks are having to do a little extra cosmetic work before their season opener. This weekend’s Jay-Z and Beyoncé concert destroyed the turf, days before the team is scheduled to take the field. ALWAYS TIME FOR A LAST MINUTE FACE-LIFT

Sideline stat

Last season, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton led his team to a big victory over the Baltimore Ravens (NFL – National Football League). That win couldn’t save his Bengals postseason dreams but it allowed the Buffalo Bills to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in 17 years. In gratitude, Bills fans donated $450,000 to Dalton’s charity. This weekend during his first game back in Buffalo, Dalton turned the tables and made a $450,000 donation to the Roswell Park Cancer Center in downtown Buffalo, earning him a standing ovation from the Bills' fans. Yesterday, The Players’ Tribune published an essay by Golden State Warriors’ (NBA – National Basketball Association) Steph Curry entitled “It’s Personal,” highlighting the need for gender equality. The NBA MVP is surrounded by women including his wife, Ayesha - a successful chef and restaurateur and two young daughters. MLB (Major League Baseball)

When your girl has game. Forget the guys who are paid to take the pitching mound at a game, Sister Mary Jo showed them how it’s done. The nun showed off her impressive ball skills before throwing out a perfect first pitch at a Chicago White Sox game. SERIOUSLY, YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS.

Overtime

A feel-good moment in soccer this weekend. Normally only hooligans throw things on the field during a match but fans of Dutch soccer team Excelsior threw hundreds of stuffed animals onto the field for a good cause. The stuffed critters were collected and donated to the local children’s hospital. COMING IN HOT

Sideline stat

After dominating at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, American gold medal gymnast Simone Biles took nearly two years off from the sport. She certainly didn’t show any signs of rust as she swept the U.S. Gymnastics Championships this weekend. The 21-year-old became the only woman to ever win five national all-around titles. With her win, she also became the oldest women's all-around champion in more than 40 years. RESPECT YOUR ELDERS

We’re not sure who had more fun at the Little League World Series – the little leaguers or the big leaguers from the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets who were in town to play in the MLB Little League Classic. No matter their age, they were all kids at heart collecting autographs, souvenirs and of course selfies, especially with “Big Al,” the little leaguer who, in the promo video, introduced himself as “Big Al who likes to hit dingers.” THAT’S MORE THAN WE CAN DO
