So Close You Can Almost Taste It

U.S. women plan to show the world today, who has a new rock and why one sports reporter might need a new job.

Victory is on the horizon.

I think I can, I think I can,

The Last Night’s Game Team

Women’s World Cup

The U.S. Women will face their toughest competitor yet in Team Spain today at noon EST. While you cheer on your team, you should know that fans and teams are not cheering for VAR (Video Assistant Referee – i.e. instant replay). It’s the first time using the technology in the tourney and it may be the last. The VAR played an integral, and not so favorable role, in the Cameroon - England game and Jamaica – Italy games. GAME ON

Overtime

Sean McVay, who was the youngest head coach in NFL (National Football League) history when he was hired by the Los Angeles Rams at 30, may not have won a Super Bowl ring this year but he still has some new bling in his household. The Rams head coach, now 33, popped the question to his model girlfriend over the weekend while vacationing in France. YOU COMPLETE (PASS) ME

Sideline stat

It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for in the College Baseball World Series. Michigan and Vanderbilt will battle for the championship in the best-of-three games finals starting tonight. You might remember Michigan is the team whose coach strives to make college baseball accessible to all and Vanderbilt has the crazy Vandy Whistlers who are pissing everyone off. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Coaches’ Corner

It’s been a rough season for the New York Mets (MLB – Major League Baseball) so why not throw another log on the fire? The team’s head coach shouted obscenities at a reporter after a game yesterday and then a pitcher, coming to defense of his coach, charged the reporter. No body contact was made, apologies were issued and everyone is cool now. TALK ABOUT A HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT

Just Right

The Juice joins Twitter, what happens in Vegas ends up on TMZ and who runs the world?

Short and sweet for your Monday morning.

Goes great with coffee,

The Last Night’s Game Team

NBA (National Basketball Association)

After celebrating their NBA Championship in Vegas over the weekend, the Toronto Raptors will continue the celebration with a victory parade today, where two million people are expected to attend. Moral of the story? Don’t expect anyone in Toronto (or maybe even Canada for that matter) to get much work done today. CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES

Overtime

Days after the 25th anniversary of the death of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman, O.J. Simpson joined Twitter. It went exactly as you would imagine. He posted a video stating, “I got a little getting even to do” and that he is going to use the platform to “talk about everything, especially sports and fantasy football, and even politics.” THE JUICE IS LOOSE

Sideline stat

The U.S. Women put another ‘W’ in the win column yesterday, beating Chile 3-0. The team was led by Carli Lloyd, who at age 37, set the record for consecutive goals in World Cup matches at six. Team U.S.A. will take on Sweden in the final round of the group stage on Thursday. BRINGING HOME THE BACON

Coaches’ Corner

The NBA (National Basketball Association) off-season just began and the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to a trade deal that will dramatically shift the power in the NBA. Giving up a few players and draft picks, the Lakers traded for Pelicans star Anthony Davis (known for his unibrow). BET SOMEONE IN L.A. COULD FIX THAT

What to watch

Gary Woodland won his first Major yesterday at the U.S. Open (PGA – Professional Golfers Association). (There are four majors – aka major golf tournaments – in golf). The icing on the cake was that it was on Father’s Day, which holds a special place with a lot of love and heartache for Woodland. BIG WIN, BIG HEART

Is it Friday yet?

We’re going to need more coffee,

The Last Night’s Game

NBA (National Basketball Association)

The Toronto Raptors are looking to end the Golden State Warriors dynasty and win their first ever championship. But don’t look now, one of the Warriors best players, Kevin Durant, may be returning from injury. Raptors fans lined up for three days in hopes of grabbing a prime spot in the Raptors’ outdoor fan zone known as Jurassic Park for Game Five tonight. NOW THAT’S COMMITMENT

“Bachelorette” fans are not going to be happy because the show has been postponed until Tuesday due to Game Five. HEADS ARE GONNA ROLL

Overtime

Ever been so tired you could sleep anywhere? That’s exactly what happened to a bat during a Cleveland Indians (MLB - Major League Baseball) game. The want-to-be vampire slumbered away while latched onto the infield net during yesterday’s game. RABIES AND RBIs

Sideline Stat

While Rafael Nadal won his record 12th French Open title, cricket player turned tennis player Ashleigh Barty won her first grand slam. (There are four Grand Slam tournaments, a.k.a. majors, in tennis). A GOOD CAREER MOVE

Coaches' Corner

The U.S. Women’s National Team will take on Team Thailand tomorrow in the Women’s World Cup. Be a part of the team with this insider’s dictionary. BRING IT ON

What to watch

In honor of the NBA Finals, check out these Canadians who are too nice to talk trash to the Golden State Warriors on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME
