Stranger Things

Who took a beating while Tiger’s making history and it all comes down to this in the World Series.

Dracula with a tan? Mr. Goodbar more popular than Snickers? Advancing a business connection with your practical knowledge of the world of sports? Weirder things have happened.

Scary good,

The Last Night’s Game

MLB (Major League Baseball)

The Houston Astros came into this weekend down 0-2 in the World Series against the Washington Nationals. They won all three games this weekend on the road in Washington including last night’s with President Trump in the stands. Now they’re headed home for game six and are one game away from winning the World Series on Tuesday. COMING FOR YOU

Overtime

Overcoming a typhoon that pushed play back a day, Tiger Woods proved that he’s still a force to be reckoned with on the golf course. He won the Zozo Championship in Japan, tying the record for the most wins of all time. This monumental win is his first outing since arthroscopic knee surgery in August. JUST TRY TO STOP HIM

Sideline stat

Top 10 ranked college football teams are dropping like flies. Oklahoma (#5) lost to unranked Kansas State over the weekend. It was the third weekend in a row that a top 10 ranked team lost. Laughing all the way to the front of the line? LSU. They became the #1 ranked school in the country, topping teams that have gone unbeaten like Alabama and Ohio State. The story here? The college football playoffs are up for grabs…something we haven’t been able to say for years. GIVE HOPE A CHANCE

Coaches’ corner

The Southampton Football Club (Premier League Soccer) lost so badly over the weekend, that they've chosen to donate their salaries from one game to a local charity in an attempt to make it up to fans. Their humiliating loss to Leicester tied the record for biggest defeat in premiere league history. INSERT FOOT IN WALLET

What to watch

Fans and athletes alike were taking a beating this weekend. First a bold move by a Washington Nationals (MLB) fan who refused to drop his beers and took a World Series home run ball to the chest. And then drivers Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin got into a post-race altercation as tension ran high during the NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) playoffs. Going The Distance

The smart way one coach is penalizing players for bad behavior, who tied the knot and who is cashing in years later.

Forgo the awkward silence while waiting for a meeting to start or for your dinner to arrive by putting to use the best stories from the always interesting world of sports.

We’ve got your back,

The Last Night’s Game Team

College football

It was an exciting weekend in college football with a huge upset of another top 10 ranked team. Wisconsin (#6) was handed a loss by an unranked Illinois team. Another moment worth noting is the loss of Alabama’s (#1) starting quarterback. The team lost Tua Tagovailoa with an ankle injury. Normally the team would be okay but his talented backup, Jalen Hurts, transferred to Oklahoma this season and is dominating there, so we’ll see if Alabama can pick up the pieces and stay at the front of the pack. IT’S ALL FUN AND GAMES UNTIL SOMEONE LOSES A QUARTERBACK

Overtime

The road to starting a family for female athletes is a tough one. You may recall the criticism Nike faced from their sponsored female athletes that caused them to adopt a progressive maternity policy. Now WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) star Skylar Diggins is shedding some light on her story. She revealed that she played the entire 2018 season while she was pregnant. (She had an amazing season BTW). She spoke out about her critics, the lack of support and the fact that she took only two months off and that was to deal with postpartum depression. RAISE ‘EM UP

Former University of Texas running back Ricky Williams was the last Heisman Trophy winner to be able to profit from the sale of his famed trophy. On Saturday, his Heisman Trophy sold for a record $504,000 to a Florida sports memorabilia collector. After 1998, any player who wins the Heisman is required to sign an agreement stating they cannot sell the iconic trophy that recognizes the best in college football. CASHING IN

Coaches’ corner

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney had a creative way of laying down the law with one of his players. Freshman player Andrew Booth was ejected from this weekend’s game for punching an opposing player. The defending national championship coach made Booth ride home on the bus with the team managers instead of flying home with the team. Swinney said the almost seven hour drive home gave Booth “plenty of time to think about it.” LONGEST TIME-OUT EVER?

What to watch

Game one of the World Series is tomorrow night. The Houston Astros won their first World Series in 2017 and they’re back to try for one more. They’ll play the Washington Nationals who are playing in the World Series for the first time in franchise history. Get the skinny on this major sporting event in Wednesday’s five things to know. Truth Hurts

What happened while you were brunching, proof the Pope is a Saints fan and who destroyed their opponent's bush?

Monday mornings are painful but conversing over coffee doesn’t have to be.

Slay the day,

The Last Night’s Game Team

College Football

South Carolina pulled off the upset of the year, beating Georgia (#3) at home in double overtime. They not only made Georgia fans angry because of their victory but because the Gamecock players took home pieces of Sanford Stadium’s iconic hedges as souvenirs. THIS TREE’S FOR ME

Overtime

The New Orleans Saints (NFL – National Football League) had a higher power cheering them on Sunday. They were all but guaranteed a victory after Pope Francis used their hashtag on Twitter. The 82-year old head of the Catholic Church tweeted out a note to his 18 million followers to celebrate the canonization of five new saints but used the team’s hashtag “Saints” on Twitter, which makes the football team’s logo appear. GEAUX GOD

While the rest of us were brunching this weekend, Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge did something no one has ever done before. He ran a marathon in less than two hours. He ran at a consistent pace of 4:33.5 minutes per mile. His run won’t qualify for the world record books because he had a pace team running alongside him. INCREDIBLE FEAT

Coaches’ corner

The Gymnastics World Championships have come to a close and it’s no surprise that Simone Biles dominated, winning her 25th gold medal. With that win she became the most decorated gymnast in World Championship history. Post-victory she made a point to talk about how “it’s important to teach our female youth that it’s OK to say ‘Yes, I am good at this,’ and you don’t hold back. You see the men doing it. And they’re praised for it and the women are looked down upon for it.” SMALL BUT MIGHTY

What to watch

In case you missed it, the Seattle Seahawks (NFL) celebrated with a choreographed NSYNC touchdown dance….Also, Mother Nature did not cooperate with the NASCAR (National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing) playoffs, raining out Sunday’s race. Lucky you, you can watch it today instead of focusing on work.
