Here We Go Again
Why have 1 private jet when you can have 2, the sweet showing for one coach and “Bad Blood” is the anthem for the baseball playoffs?
Ready or not, Monday is here.
Preparing you for the inevitable,
The Last Night's Game
NFL (National Football League)
COVID-19 took its toll on the NFL this weekend with the Tennessee Titans–Pittsburgh Steelers game postponed after 20+ positive tests amongst the Titans. The New England Patriots–Kansas City Chiefs game was rescheduled to tonight after Patriots quarterback Cam Newton tested positive. Luckily no one else on the team has tested positive but just in case, the Patriots are using their two (yes two) team planes to fly to Kansas City for the game. One plane will carry about 20 people who were in close contact with Newton. The other will carry everyone else. ROUGHING IT
Overtime
Washington Football Team’s (NFL) head coach Ron Rivera is currently undergoing treatment for skin cancer while still coaching. Yesterday a little surprise awaited him as his team took the field. With no fans in the stands, an entire section of the stadium was filled with cardboard cut outs of 450 of his friends and family. Apparently it was a particularly rough treatment week for Rivera so that and his team wearing “Rivera Strong” shirts were a welcome boost. FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT
Sideline stat
Both the Los Angeles Lakers (NBA - National Basketball Association) and the Seattle Storm (WNBA – Women’s National Basketball Association) came out hot in the finals of their respective leagues. The Storm are one win away from claiming a championship from the Las Vegas Aces. The Lakers lost last night so they have a little more to prove after starting off with a 2-0 lead (in a best of seven series). IN IT TO WIN IT
Coaches’ corner
The MLB (Major League Baseball) Playoffs head to the divisional series starting today with teams in neutral bubbles in Texas and California. Just because some think baseball is a slower sport doesn’t mean there won’t be some spice in this round. The highlight is the series between the Houston Astros and the Oakland Athletics. A’s pitcher Mike Fiers (formerly of the Astros) was the whistleblower on the Astros cheating scandal that rocked the sports world. BAD BLOOD
What to watch
Alexander Zverev took the court at the French Open (tennis) with COIVD-like symptoms, including a fever, and didn’t tell anyone. His illness clearly impacted his play as he lost yesterday. The No. 7 player in the world took the court Friday with a fever as well. Reminder - stay home if you’re sick (this means you too Alexander). NOT SMART
So Good It Hurts
The XFL’s debut, the newest athlete to win an Oscar and hairspray dominates the Westminster Dog Show.
Small talk made easy by uniting the best in sports and pop culture just for you.
The best thing to happen to your Monday since coffee,
The Last Night’s Game Team
XFL
The first weekend of the XFL football piqued the interest of football fans. Over three million people tuned in for the first game and many stuck around to watch fast and furious games that lasted less than three hours (well most of them), f-bombs on live TV and insights into the team’s strategies with cameras everywhere. Can they keep up the momentum? Time will tell. FOR THE LOVE OF FOOTBALL
PS – The “X” in XFL doesn’t actually stand for something – hence why we didn’t spell it out like usual.
OVERTIME
Last night “Parasite” shocked the world by cleaning up at the Oscars. Spike Lee honored Kobe Bryant on the red carpet and former NFL (National Football League) player Matthew A. Cherry followed in Bryant’s footsteps and won an Oscar for best animated short film. He directed a film titled “Hair Love” about a dad learning to do his daughter’s hair for the first time. AND THE OSCAR GOES TO….
SIDELINE STAT
The U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics over the weekend. The USWNT has qualified for every Olympics since women’s soccer was introduced in 1996 and have won four gold medals. While they’ve also won the past two World Cup competitions, they haven’t always been the golden child. The team had an early exit in the 2016 Rio Olympics but hope to continue their winning momentum this summer. GOLD LOOKS GOOD ON YOU
COACHES’ CORNER
It’s day two of the Westminster Dog show and already Aqua Net stock has gone up. These primped pooches will continue the competition with the goal of being named the “Best in Show” tomorrow. Even if you have no desire to livestream the pup parade, do yourself a favor and check out our Five Things You Need To Know About The Westminster Dog Show. There are some hilarious facets to the competition that will have you saying “what in the world?” IT ALL STARTED WITH “HOLD MY BEER.”
WHAT TO WATCH
We’re seeing more women make their way onto the field in the NFL. The Washington Redskins hired Jennifer King who will become the first African American woman to coach full-time in NFL history. She joins three other women in full-time coaching positions in the league. GIRL POWER
Lived Up To The Hype
Everything you need to know about the Super Bowl (plus a little tennis and SNL) and nothing you don’t.
Whether you cheered for the commercials, a good game, halftime or the snacks, the Super Bowl continued its dynasty as the ultimate Sunday Funday.
The legend lives on,
The Last Night’s Game Team
PS - Don't forget to set your Bachelor bracket picks for tonight's rose ceremony. Want to join? Everyone's doing it.
NFL (National Football League)
The drought is over for the Kansas City Chiefs. In a great battle between two stellar teams, the Chiefs won the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes announced he’s going to Disney World to celebrate being named the youngest player, 24, in NFL history to win an MVP award (2018), Super Bowl MVP and a Super Bowl trophy. His head coach, Andy Reid, finally claimed his first Super Bowl title after 20 years as a head coach. Surely the Chiefs “flu” is decimating office attendance this morning. DANCING IN THE STREETS
Overtime
One duo you could bet on? Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. The two killed it in their halftime show in outfits that made us question our choice to consume so many snacks. Their secret special guest performer? Emme – JLo’s daughter, who proved that she has pipes.
Then there were the commercials. The experts all loved Bill Murray, his Jeep co-pilot Punxsutaweney Phil and the commercial that took fate to make it happen. Tom Brady teased us earlier in the week, but showed us how smart he is to get paid to tell us he’s not going anywhere. Let’s not forget Sam Elliott facing off with Lil Nas X and Post Malone. FORGET WORKING, WATCH THEM AGAIN

Meanwhile, down under we have two new Australian Open champions (tennis). The 21-year-old American Sofia Kenin won her first Grand Slam title (i.e winning one of the four major tournaments in tennis) but her proud dad and lifetime coach is the one who melted hearts. On the men’s side, Novak Djokovic won his eighth Australian Open title. WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION
Coaches’ corner
Don’t worry, we didn’t forget the most important part of yesterday’s excitement. In a game of adoptable puppy cuteness, Team Fluff beat Team Ruff in the 16th Annual Animal Planet Puppy Bowl. In the past, the Puppy Bowl has had a 100% adoption rate. (You can rewatch the game here if you need some levity in your Monday). THE HARD-HITTING REPORTING YOU’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR
What to watch
While you set your bracket picks for tonight’s rose ceremony, watch J.J. Watt’s “The Bachelor” spoof from Saturday Night Live. The Houston Texans (NFL) defensive end played ‘Pilot Pat’ during his first time hosting of SNL. TOO GOOD
