The first of the "big three" in men's tennis is hanging up his racket. Yesterday, Roger Federer, 41, announced his retirement on social media. The last few years of his career were plagued with injuries and surgeries. The 20-time Grand Slam champion, who spent a record 237 consecutive weeks as the world No. 1, will play one last tennis event next weekend at the Laver Cup. Federer joins Serena Williams as one of the greatest in the sport to retire. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

The Cleveland Browns (NFL - National Football League) will unveil their "new" mascot, Brownie the Elf. Brownie was the team's original mascot who has since been revived by a fan vote.
Last night's game between the Kansas Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers marked the first time an NFL regular season game was aired exclusively on a streaming service. Amazon is paying roughly $67M per game in rights fees, a $13B deal that runs through 2033.
The Mexican Independence Day weekend tradition continues with Canelo Alvarez stepping into the boxing ring. This time his fight is against his rival, Gennady "Triple GGG" Golovkin.

Serena Williams isn't the only athlete to walk in a show at New York Fashion Week. WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) star DiDi Richards made her debut at the Dur Doux show with her teammates in the front row. Then there's the NBA's Kyle Kuzma, who sent the internet into a frenzy over his unique outfit on the runway at Puma's New York Fashion Week show. WERK IT

It's a common practice for major football programs to pay smaller programs to play them, presumably a "pay for an easy win" scenario. This weekend that did not happen. Three teams, Texas A&M, Nebraska and Notre Dame, paid a combined $4.1M to Appalachian State, Georgia Southern and Marshall, and those smaller football programs not only cashed the check but also won the game. While Miami Dolphins (NFL - National Football League) fans were watching their team beat the New England Patriots, a tailgater's grill caught fire, burning several cars.
The Cadiz - Barcelona (soccer) game halts after the Cadiz goalkeeper sprinted across the field with a defibrillator to save a fan suffering a heart attack.
League MVP A'ja Wilson powers her Las Vegas Aces to a game one of the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) finals win. Aces and Las Vegas Raiders (NFL) owner Mark Davis had to pick between his two teams, and he chose to attend the Raiders game. The WNBA finals game two is tomorrow.
The first MLB (Major League Baseball) team to offer in-stadium wine service, the San Francisco Giants, hire the first-ever Master Sommelier for a professional sports organization.

We've all wanted to prove our ex wrong, and quarterback Baker Mayfield will get that chance Sunday when his new team, the Carolina Panthers, takes on the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are his former team that turned their back on him for quarterback Deshaun Watson, who is currently suspended for sexual misconduct. But it's also a bit of sweet justice as the Browns are still paying out Mayfield's contract. So they're paying him part of $10M to play against them. PLOT TWIST

The ratings for the WNBA playoffs have been through the roof, and that's not about to stop when the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) finals start on Sunday. The Connecticut Sun and the Las Vegas Aces will play for the championship, which neither team has ever won.
The Premier League (soccer) halted play this weekend in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's death.
This weekend, the Rice football team's snazzy uniforms honor the 60th anniversary of President Kennedy's famous moon speech at Rice University in 1962.
The tension at the BMW Championship is real, with golfers from the PGA (Professional Golfers Association) and LIV leagues playing together for the first time since the tumultuous split and subsequent lawsuit.

Frances Tiafoe plays Carlos Alcaraz today in the U.S. Open semifinals (tennis). The winner will play in the finals on Sunday. Tiafoe's story is an inspiration. As a kid, he slept in a tennis center where his father was a janitor. He is also the first American to reach the U.S. Open semifinals since 2006 and the first Black man to reach the U.S. Open finals since Arthur Ashe in 1972.
On the women's side, two of the best players in the world, Iga Swiatek and Ons Jabeur, will play in the finals on Saturday.
