Today is the first day of the men's and women's college basketball seasons. Last season, Kansas won the men's title, but they start this season without head coach Bill Self, who is suspended for four games over infractions.

Last week was the best week ever for Philadelphia sports fans. This week, not so much. The Phillies lost in the World Series (MLB - Major League Baseball) to the Houston Astros. Veteran player Justin Verlander won his second World Series ring, and longtime manager Dusty Baker took home his first World Series ring as a coach. (Baker won a title as a player).
Also on Saturday, the Philadelphia Union lost in the MLS (Major League Soccer) Championship to LAFC (Los Angeles Football Club) in a shootout. It was the first championship for LAFC. THERE'S ALWAYS NEXT YEAR

Michigan dominated their rival Michigan State on Saturday. Then it got out of control after the game. There is video footage of a group of Michigan State players beating up a Michigan player in the stadium tunnel. Three Michigan players were injured in the incident. The act is under police investigation and four Michigan State players have been suspended. UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT

The World Series is tied at 1-1 between the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies (MLB - Major League Baseball) but the most impressive performance is the home plate umpire who received a glowing report card, calling a perfect game.
The Portland Thorns win their third NWSL (National Women's Soccer League) title. Thorns player Sophia Smith was named the youngest league MVP and the youngest player to score in a championship game.
New England Patriots (NFL - National Football League) owner Robert Kraft unveils a new TV ad condemning Jewish hate.

Tennessee remained undefeated after beating UT Martin. Vols fans paid it forward, contributing to the campaign to rebuild a UT Martin player's family home. AJ Marquez and his family lost their home in Hurricane Ian, and he saw their GoFund Me quadruple after his team's loss, and he left the field as "a big Vols fan." BETTER TOGETHER
