Your brilliant mind is capable of so many things this week.

Go get ‘em,

The Last Night’s Game Team

Kentucky Derby

The big winner in the Kentucky Derby, Medina Spirit, could lose its’ title after testing positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance. The horse’s trainer Bob Baffert denies that he gave the horse any illegal substance, but he has a history of questionable choices. Baffert, who has had five horses fail drug tests over the past 5 years, has been banned from Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, while further investigations are conducted. He still plans on entering Medina Spirit in the Preakness Stakes this weekend. LOCKED AND LOADED

Overtime

They may be the toughest competitors in their sport, but they all love their mamas. Pregame routines and social media were filled with tributes from some of your favorite athletes, including Tom Brady (NFL – National Football League) and Karl-Anthony Towns (NBA - National Basketball Association), who lost his mom to COVID. We loved seeing soccer’s Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris celebrate their first Mother’s Day. They recently became moms after adopting a baby girl. SO MUCH LOVE

Sideline stat

We had our hopes up for DK Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks (NFL) to make an appearance in this summer’s Olympics, but sadly that won’t be the case. In the qualifying race, he ran the 100-meter dash (confirm this) in 10.36 – coming in 15th in a field of 17. He would have automatically qualified with the time of 10.05. The ridiculously fast Metcalf tried out after accepting a dare given by U.S. Track and Field to attempt to qualify for the Olympics. THERE’S ALWAYS FOOTBALL

Coaches’ corner

Former NFL player and former ‘Bachelor’ Jesse Palmer has a new gig to add to his resume. The sports analyst will host a new reality TV show, “The Ultimate Surfer.” Surfing legend Kelly Slater will also have his hands in the project as it was filmed at his ranch. The show will select a male and female as the Ultimate Surfer and they will have the chance to compete on the WSL World Tour (World Surfing League). SURF’S UP

Up And At 'Em

The second date gone viral, soccer protests, Oscars < NFL Draft and “Guac on the Rock.”

Don’t let the snooze button fool you, you’ve got this.

Make it happen,
The Last Night’s Game Team

MLB (Major League Baseball)

The internet loves a good love story and look no further than sports as a backdrop to a perfect date. Former college soccer player turned esports star Connor Buckley took to Twitter to ask the Arizona Diamondbacks to check in on his roommate’s second date. The Dbacks accepted the challenge and the internet felt the suspense of this mission as the team account gave a date play-by-play throughout the game. And in case you’re wondering, there will be a third date, but the couple is hoping for a little less fanfare on that one. MAY WE SUGGEST A QUIET CAFE NEXT TIME?

Overtime

On Saturday, Vanessa Bryant celebrated what would’ve been daughter Gigi’s 15th birthday by releasing a new “Mambacita” clothing line. The tie-dyed sweatshirts and sweat pants are now for sale and feature the Mambacita butterfly logo and the No. 2 inside a heart. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation. CLOTHING WITH HEART

There’s nothing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson can’t do. From college football to wrestling to acting to XFL owner, he’s now added the founder of Teremana tequila to his list of accomplishments. His tequila is one of the fastest-growing celebrity spirits in history. And just in time for Cinco de Mayo, he’ll buy you guacamole at your favorite restaurant if you order his tequila. The promotion titled “Guac on The Rock” lasts from May 1 – 5. GUAC IT TO ME

Coaches’ corner

Remember the European Soccer Super League that dissipated as quickly as it started? Well, Manchester United fans have not forgotten. Yesterday they stormed the stadium before a match between Manchester United and Liverpool in protest of the Florida-based Glazer family that owns the team. (The family also owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - NFL - National Football League). Man U was one of the handful of teams that signed onto the Super League and the fans are upset that the owners tried to change the sport that they love so much. If the whole situation confuses you, you’re not alone. Here’s a great breakdown of why fans are so upset. HECK NO WE WON’T GO

What to watch

For the first time, the NFL Draft had more viewers than the Oscars. Over 12 million people tuned in to watch the Jacksonville Jaguars select Trevor Lawrence in the first round vs. the 9.85 million that tuned in to watch Brad Pitt and friends at the Oscars. NEXT YEAR…BRAD PITT AT THE DRAFT?

Life Goals

Athletes who won an Oscar last night, why fans were burning couches in Kentucky and explaining Sunday’s no-hitter that wasn’t.

If you’re like us, you’re drooling over all the Oscars fashion while wearing something similar - the office standard athleisure. One day we’ll dress up again.

Until then, at least we’ll have great conversation,

The Last Night’s Game Team

NBA (National Basketball Association)

Kevin Durant and Mike Conley joined Kobe Bryant last night in a rare category for professional athletes – Oscar winner. The two are listed as executive producers on the film “Two Distant Strangers,” which won for live-action short film. According to IMDb, it is a film that dramatizes police brutality as an inescapable time loop like a tragic "Groundhog Day" for Black Americans. Bryant won an Oscar in 2018 for his role in the animated short “Dear Basketball.” DIVERSIFYING THE RESUME

Overtime

Kentucky won their first-ever Women’s Volleyball College Championship on Saturday night, beating Texas. The town of Lexington went crazy with the celebrations by burning couches and partying in the streets. SEEMS LOGICAL

Party boy Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement to win a Super Bowl with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFL – National Football League). This weekend he added another title to his resume, Guinness World Record holder. While visiting his alma mater, the University of Arizona, he caught a 600-foot pass from a helicopter on his third attempt. It was the highest altitude catch that's ever been recorded in the world. HOLD MY BEER

Coaches’ corner

This morning your sports colleagues may be talking about the no-hitter in baseball that wasn’t. Here’s what happened. MLB (Major League Baseball) has new rules that state that doubleheaders (i.e., back-to-back games played on the same day) will only be seven innings, not the traditional nine. Well, that cost the Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Madison Bumgarner an official no-hitter. He threw a no-hitter for the complete seven innings, but because it wasn’t the traditional nine, the league won’t count it. RULES ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN
