Five Things To Know About Game 7 Of The World Series

How’d we get here? This record-breaking MLB (Major League Baseball) World Series has been back and forth the entire time. The Houston Astros had a chance to win it all last night but the Los Angeles Dodgers prevailed, winning in front of their home crowd. Tonight’s game is at Dodger Stadium. SCHEDULE

1. We haven’t always seen November baseball. When the 9/11 terror attacks delayed the baseball season by a week in 2001, that delay pushed the series into November for the first time ever.

2. TMobile is stepping up to the plate for hurricane relief. They have pledged $20,000 per World Series home run and $2 per #HR4HR tweet. The tweets along with the record breaking amount of home runs have racked up over $1 million for the relief efforts. It's not often you can make a difference while sitting on the couch watching TV.  

3. We don’t love to throw stats at you but yet another reason that tonight’s game isn’t the norm. There have only been 38 World Series game 7’s in the last 105 years of baseball.

4. Dodger Stadium is vintage according to stadium standards. The stadium, built in 1962, has never hosted a World Series game 7. No doubt the stars will be out tonight to cheer on their team. See who was there last night. PICS

5. Tonight’s starter for the Dodgers, Yu Darvish, will become the first Japanese-born pitcher to start game 7 of the World Series. Earlier this week, Darvish was the target of racist comments from an Astros player. READ MORE.

MLB (Major League Baseball)

Texas-sized battle. The World Series between the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers resumes tonight in Houston and is tied 1-1. Athletes and celebrities packed the stands in Dodger Stadium during the first two games, who will show up in Houston? Hometown girl Beyonce? One can hope.  

College Football

Rolling in the dough. Alabama is the number one football team in the country, so it’s only fitting that they have the highest paid coach in college football. Head coach Nick Saban cashes in with a salary of $11 million, topping the USA Today list of highest paid college coaches. See who else laughs all the way to the bank. LIST

 

Overtime

J.J. Watt and Haley Dawson are throwing out the first pitch before one of the next two World Series games. Watt is the Houston Texans (NFL) player who started a hurricane relief fund that raised over $37 million. Dawson is a 7-year-old girl who dreams of throwing out the first pitch at all 30 stadiums. What makes it even more special is that she was born without a hand and will use her robotic one to help her throw a strike.

Sideline stat

Two teams in the NFL remain winless after seven games into the season. Misery loves company and the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns still have yet to celebrate. The teams do not play each other in the regular season so the future could be grim.

Coaches’ corner

No one is more excited for this weekend’s NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) playoff race than wife of soon-to-be retired driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. A pregnant Amy Earnhardt will drive the pace car for the race. The real-life Baby Driver will be responsible for slowing down the field of cars when there’s an accident on the track until it’s cleaned up and safe to resume racing.

MLB (Major League Baseball)

• At last. Chicago Cubs beat the Los Angeles Dodgers to advance to the World Series. This is the Cubs' first trip to the World Series since 1945. The overwhelming emotion of fans waiting their entire life to see this moment could be felt throughout the city. Then there’s 90-year-old Dorothy planned to party it up.  
• Game One of the World Series between the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs is tomorrow night. 

NCAA Football (College)

• Whiteout win. In a home game, unranked Penn State upset Ohio State (#2). Fans, who supported the “whiteout game” by wearing white, rushed the field to celebrate the nearly impossible victory. See a cool photo of the white out crowd here. 

NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing)

• Next please. On Sunday, 12 drivers entered the race looking to advance to the next round of the elimination-style playoffs. Joey Logano won the race, guaranteeing himself a spot in the next round of eight drivers. Who else made it? See for yourself.

NFL (National Football League)

• Undefeated no more. The injury prone Minnesota Vikings were the last remaining undefeated team this season. Yesterday they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles. We guess all good things must come to an end.
• Desert duel. For just the fourth time since 2000, an NFL game ended in a tie. The Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals game resulted in a tie after both teams’ kickers missed seemingly automatic field goals in overtime.

F1 Racing (Formula One)

• Party on. Lewis Hamilton dominated the Circuit of the Americas in Austin this weekend, taking home his 50th career win. Post-race interviewer, actor Gerard Butler, continued a newly established, gross tradition, the “Shoey.” He drank Red Bull out of the freshly worn and sweaty shoe of driver Daniel Ricciardo.

Overtime

• Last season's NBA (National Basketball Association) champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers were scheduled to open their season and receive their championship rings tomorrow night at 8 pm EST. The Cleveland Indians are scheduled to throw out the first pitch of the World Series at the same time in Cleveland. The NBA agreed to move the start time of the game so Cleveland fans could witness both monumental occasions.

Sideline stat

• It was a Texas-sized shoot-out on Saturday night when the University of Oklahoma Sooners beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders 66-59. (That’s a really high score). Amongst the seven offensive records broken or tied, the two teams combined for the most yards in a game in college football history.
