An injury that’ll have you saying WTF, why the tennis season may be on hold and the cutest starting lineup around?
The first full work week of the new year also means the first official happy hour of the new year.

Wild card weekend lived up to its hype, with two overtime games. The biggest news of the weekend is that the New England Patriots lost to the Tennessee Titans, missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade. Speculation is swirling around Tom Brady’s next move, but nothing has been announced. The Minnesota Vikings, Houston Texans and Seattle Seahawks also won and will be moving onto the next round this weekend. SAYONARA DYNASTY

New York Mets (MLB – Major League Baseball) often injured star player Yoenis Cespedes missed last season with an ankle injury sustained from a fall on his ranch. This weekend it was reported that the ankle injury was due to a wild boar incident at his ranch. The boar either startled him or charged him, causing him to step into a hole and hurt his ankle. Super Bowl Sunday is just around the corner and that means it’s also time for the Puppy Bowl. The cutest lineup of adoptable shelter pups has been released. Team Ruff and Team Fluff will battle it out with the goal of getting every dog on the field adopted. Not into dogs? Don’t worry, the two teams will be cheered on by hamsters, pygmy goats, armadillos and kittens. ALL FOR A GOOD CAUSE

College Football
It was a tale of two football games on Saturday in an effort to claim the two final spots in the College Football National Championship Game on Monday, January 13. LSU (Louisiana State) embarrassed Oklahoma, defeating them 63-28. The Clemson and Ohio State game came down to the wire with Clemson pulling off a win to head to the national championship game. The game on January 13 will essentially be a home game for LSU at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. GEAUX TEAM

Papa John’s Pizza founder John Schnatter was a huge supporter of the University of Louisville, including the title sponsorship of their football arena, up until the university parted ways with him after his scandalous use of a racial slur and subsequent resignation as the company CEO. He showed up to the Bluegrass State rivalry basketball game between Kentucky and Louisville wearing Kentucky blue. Put one in the win column for Papa because Kentucky won in overtime. BURN

The New England Patriots (NFL – National Football League) may have never heard the saying “don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched.” For the first time in a decade, they don’t have a clear shot to the playoffs. In the last weekend of the NFL regular season, they lost to the Miami Dolphins, who only have four wins. Now they’ll have to play the Tennessee Titans in a wild card game to pave their path to winning another Super Bowl. NOT A SURE BET
Coaches’ corner
Today is known as Black Monday in the NFL because it’s the day coaches tend to get fired. Yesterday was the last day of the regular season so coaches who had a subpar team are likely to get the boot today. So far we know that the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants and Carolina Panthers are looking for a new coach but the Dallas Cowboys might be next team with a job opening. NOW HIRING

This weekend brought us a match made in soccer heaven when soccer stars Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris married in Florida. The two met while playing on the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team in 2010 and now play on the Orlando Pride. Of course, their fellow teammates were in attendance including Alex Morgan and her baby bump. PARTY FOR TWO

This proud papa is beaming with pride, we’re in uncharted territory in college hoops and what people will do for free food.

Never stand in the way of free food. Just ask Isaiah Thomas of the Washington Wizards. He went up into the stands to confront a Philadelphia 76ers fan who was flipping him off and yelling obscenities at him toward the end of the game. Why the outlash? The fan justified their actions by saying all he wanted was a free Frosty (from Wendy’s), which fans receive if an opposing player misses two consecutive free throws during the second half of a game. Because of the incident, Thomas has been suspended for two games, the fan has been banned for a year and the season ticket holder who gave the fan their tickets had their tickets revoked. Former NBA player Dwyane Wade opened up about his family life and, for the first time publicly, about supporting his LGBTQ child Zion. Using both male and female pronouns, he said that he wants his children to be “whoever they feel they can be in this world.” Wade is the father of four children and is married to actress Gabrielle Union. It happened again. Another No. 1 ranked college basketball team bites the dust. This time it was Kansas. It’s definitely a curse this season to be ranked at the top. For the first time in college basketball history, five different No. 1 teams have lost before January 1. UNCHARTED TERRITORY

The Dallas Cowboys (NFL - National Football League) lost a key game in their road to the playoffs yesterday to their rivals the Philadelphia Eagles. To add insult to injury after the crappy day, the team plane was deemed not viable to fly home so the team sat on buses while they were stranded in Philly for hours. It was eventually repaired and they made their way home to Dallas. FLYING THE FRIENDLY SKIES
