The last weekend of the Summer Olympics wrapped up with a few huge wins for Team USA, which finished one gold medal ahead of second-place China in the medal count. Adding to that Team USA tally were the women’s basketball team (their seventh straight gold medal), men’s basketball team (fourth consecutive gold) and women’s volleyball (first gold ever). Also, for the first time, 93 Olympic organizing committees won a medal - the most to ever win a medal at a single Olympic Games. SEE YOU IN PARIS

The NFL (National Football League) Hall of Fame speeches are always inspirational, and this weekend’s induction lived up to the hype. We had high hopes for Peyton Manning’s speech. After all, he has been the host of “Saturday Night Live.” He had the audience laughing especially as he took a jab or two at his longtime rival Tom Brady, who attended the ceremony as Manning’s guest.
The thought-provoking speech came from former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson, 78, who talked about QTL – quality time left. "Think about that," Johnson said. "I'm 78 years old and I think about QTL all the time." BE IN THE MOMENT

Arguably the world’s best soccer player, Lionel Messi, is moving on. During an emotional press conference, he said farewell to his team, FC Barcelona, that he had played for since he signed with them at age 13. (He’s 34-years-old). Messi is leaving because of team financial constraints and has agreed to a two-year deal with PSG (Paris Saint-Germain). PASS THE TISSUES

The Toronto Blue Jays (MLB – Major League Baseball) finally returned to their home stadium after being banned from traveling across the border all season due to COVID protocols. (They split their time between Buffalo and Florida). It's clear they like being home, judging by the dance party that ensues after each home win. “The Bachelorette” fans can all breathe a sigh of relief this morning because the show will premiere tomorrow night thanks to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers destroyed the Miami Heat last night to earn their 17th championship. It was bittersweet for the team as this is the first championship since Kobe Bryant won it in 2010. If the series made it to game seven, fans would’ve had to wait until another day to watch Clare search for love on TV. LeBron James and his teammates must have been a fan of the show too because they locked it down in true championship fashion. (Don’t forget to fill out your Bachelorette bracket). Overtime
Even at 48 years old Shaquille O’Neal still has things he’s never done before – like vote. The NBA Hall of Famer and basketball analyst revealed that he voted for the first time in this year’s election. This week on his podcast he said "I voted for the first time, and it feels good.” He said he never really understood how the system worked but now that he’s involved in various campaigns encouraging people to vote that he felt like a hypocrite not casting his ballot. Formula One (F1) driver Lewis Hamilton, 35, tied the record for career wins yesterday his 91st career victory. No doubt his biggest fan (and maybe fitness inspiration?), his Insta-famous dog Roscoe, who recently went vegan to heal his aches and pains, was oozing with pride. PUP-TASTIC

Yesterday in the NFL (National Football League) we saw quarterback Alex Smith make his triumphant return to the field for the Washington Football Team. Smith suffered a horrific leg injury back in 2018 that almost claimed his life. Even though his team didn’t win, it was a huge victory for him after his long, emotional journey back.
While it was a great day for Smith it was a really rough day for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dax Prescott who was carted off the field with a season ending dislocated ankle and a compound fracture. This will be the first time in his four-year career that he has missed a game. GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS
What to watch
We’re down to four teams in the MLB (Major League Baseball) playoffs and things are getting spicy with a showdown between the two teams that are undefeated in the playoffs, Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves. On the other side, the Tampa Bay Rays and Houston Astros are battling it out for a spot to play in the World Series. BATTER UP

NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing)
Former NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s plane caught on fire upon landing at a small airport in Tennessee yesterday. Luckily, Earnhardt, his wife Amy, their 1-year-old daughter, the family dog and the pilots all escaped without serious injuries. The racing family was in town for this weekend’s race at Bristol. The former driver will no longer be in the broadcast booth this weekend as he recovers with his family. TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT
Overtime
The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams (NFL - National Football League) are saying aloha to Honolulu, Hawaii this weekend where they will play their preseason game. The Cowboys star running back, Ezekiel Elliott, continues to train in Cabo San Lucas while he holds out for a contract. Meanwhile, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is using gross and confusing analogies to describe contract negotiations. (For more on Mr. Jones and other wacky team owners, check out our five guys to know). They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend and in this case, it’s baseball diamonds. Maddy Freking is the starting second baseman (or woman) for her team from Coon Rapids-Andover, representing the Midwest region in the tournament. In an Olympic qualifying event, the assumed first and second place runners joined hands as they crossed the finish line as a show of unity and teamwork. The two were disqualified for violating the rule that states athletes must not "finish in a contrived tie situation where no effort to separate the finish times has been made." What to watch
The bad boy of tennis, Australian Nick Kyrgios had yet another melt down. You might remember his Wimbledon outburst from our five time sports imitated an episode of Real Housewives, but this time he destroyed a racket, used profanity to describe the chair referee and spit toward him. In addition to a significant fine, there could be a suspension looming for Kyrgios after this outburst. CLASSY
