Ahh, airport summer travel. Nothing like listening to someone in the stall next to you talk on the phone or scroll through TikTok.

WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association)

After a weekend of flight delays (remember, WNBA teams must fly commercial, charter plans are against the rules), the Chicago Sky has finally made it home. It will host the 2022 Commissioner's Cup Championship tomorrow. The Commissioner's Cup is an in-season competition that features 61 games throughout the regular season, with players competing for a prize pool of $500,000 and an additional $165,000 for charitable and civic organizations.

Why is this such a big deal? Members of the winning team can earn up to $30,000 per player, and those on the losing team can collect as much as $10,000 per player. The average WNBA salary for the 2020-21 season was $120,648, with the largest salary award going to Jewell Lloyd (Chicago Sky) at $231,515 a season. This is why you see players playing on teams in countries like Russia to supplement their income. (Thinking of you, BG). If you're curious, Steph Curry (Golden State Warriors) is the highest-paid player in the NBA at $53.8 million a season. WHOLE LOTTA LOOT

Before We Go

Yesterday marked the first day of the Tour de France Femmes – the first-ever women's Tour de France. The 144 racers on 24 teams will compete over an eight-day, eight-stage competition. Annemiek van Vleuten of Team Movistar, a 2020 Olympic gold medalist and two-time world champ, is the overwhelming favorite to take home the inaugural title. HITTING THE PEDALS

Werk It

Jennifer Garner takes her role of soccer mom seriously, rules were made to be broken at Wimbledon and why the WNBA All-Star Game was a slam dunk.

We love a dose of fashion faux pas and sports on a Monday morning (or any morning for that matter), and today is no different.

Own it,
The Last Night's Game Team

Wimbledon

The Wimbledon men's final went as you might expect, with Novak Djokovic winning his seventh Wimbledon and 21st Grand Slam. Also, as expected, there were outbursts from his opponent Nick Kyrgios. In front of Prince George, who attended for the first time, Kyrgios yelled at the umpire about numerous things, including a woman in the stands who had "700 drinks." He then broke protocol by putting on a red Jordan hat for the awards ceremony, something that's a no-no. The strict Wimbledon dress code states, "Competitors must be dressed in suitable tennis attire that is almost entirely white…White does not include off-white or cream." Hopefully, the Jordan brand will pay his fine, which will surely follow. FASHION FAUX PAS

Short and Sweet

  • We love Jennifer Garner and Glennon Doyle wearing "official soccer mom" shirts and handing out postgame oranges at the Angel City FC game. Garner, Doyle and a whole host of A-list celebrities like Natalie Portman and Eva Longoria are owners of the NWSL (National Women's Soccer League) team.

  • Elena Rybakina changed her citizenship from Russian to Kazakhstan, and that change paid off as she won the Wimbledon women's singles tournament. She and Djokovic took home the same paycheck - $2.01 million.

  • Tony Romo outlasts all the celebrities and athletes to win the AC Champions celebrity golf tournament for the third time and in front of his biggest fans, his family.

  • The MLB (Major League Baseball) All-Stars list is out, and the Anaheim Angels' Shohei Ohtani will play as both a pitcher and hitter, a rare feat. The MLB All-Star Game is on Jul 19 in Los Angeles.

Before We Go

The WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) All-Star Game in Chicago did not disappoint. A'ja Wilson's all-star team emerged victorious in a game that saw a slam dunk by Sylvia Fowles in her last all-star game. (Dunks are not commonplace in the WNBA like in the NBA). The women didn't forget about their girl Brittney Griner. After halftime, all players emerged from the locker room wearing No. 42, Griner's number. #WEAREBG

And The Home Of The Brave

The skinny on the hot dog eating contest, Tom Cruise's fast 60th bday celebration and we love this USWNT player making history.

May your day be filled with fireworks, time with friends and watching adults try to eat 77 hot dogs in 10 mins.

Do not try this at home,

Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest

An American tradition unlike any other- the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest is today. Be prepared to spice up any conversation with useless hot dog knowledge like vomiting. In the hot dog eating contest, an eater who has "a Roman incident" or “reversal of fortune,” as it is so delightfully called, will be disqualified if the result of that incident touches the plate or table. After the contest, eaters can dispose of the food however they’d like, although some contests have a post-binge wait period.

The 14-time men’s champ, Joey Chestnut, will be defending his title today on crutches and in a cast as he recovers from a ruptured tendon.

There's more where that came from in this week's podcast, "The Independence Day Tradition That Makes Us Want To Puke." LISTEN OR READ MORE
