The Match

The fourth edition of “The Match,” a golf game that pits golfers and other athletes against each other all in the name of charity, takes place tomorrow in Big Sky, Montana. Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson will compete against Aaron Rodgers and golfer Bryson DeChambeau. Let’s hope Brady wears better pants as he ripped his in the last “Match” and that they have better weather (the last one was played in a downpour). Regardless, the crap talking has already started, it’s for a good cause (The Match II raised $20 million for COVID-19 relief), and it’ll be fun to see. GET YOUR GAME FACE ON

Overtime

The best story you might have missed over the weekend is the story behind Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB - Major League Baseball) pitcher Joe Kelly’s outfit that he wore to the White House. The Dodgers were the first team of the Biden era to visit the White House, and Kelly, whose mother is Mexican-American, wore a mariachi jacket. He acquired the jacket earlier in the week after asking a musician from a mariachi band that played at Dodgers Stadium if he’d trade for a jersey. THE REST IS HISTORY

Is it a holiday if you don’t overindulge? Ask Joey Chestnut, who broke his own record yesterday, eating 76 hot dogs (and buns) in 10 minutes at the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. A new champion, Tucson native Michelle Lesco, was crowned after downing 30 and 3/4 hot dogs in 10 minutes on the women's side. FEELING A LITTLE QUEASY

History has been made in the week before the MLB All-Star game. Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels became the first player in baseball’s long history to be selected to the all-star game as both a pitcher and a position player. Ohtani, the first Japanese player selected to start the all-star game, will serve as a pitcher and designated hitter. (More on a designated hitter here). BATTER UP

What to watch

The NBA (National Basketball Association) Finals start tomorrow between the Phoenix Suns and the Milwaukee Bucks. The Suns have never won a championship, and the Bucks haven’t won since 1971. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Lighting are looking for a sweep in the Stanley Cup Finals (NHL - National Hockey League) against the Montreal Canadiens tonight. GAME ON

WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association)

Pave the way for the new guard. Controversial Atlanta Dream owner Kelly Loeffler is out as an owner of the team, and an ownership group featuring former Dream player Renee Montgomery is in. Montgomery is the first former WNBA player to be an owner of a team. Loeffler previously served as a Republican Senator in the Georgia Senate. Calls for Loeffler to sell her ownership started after she criticized the Black Lives Matter movement. GET WITH THE PROGRAM

Overtime

By now, you’ve heard that longtime Bachelor host Chris Harrison is stepping aside after controversial comments. Stepping in for him during the “After the Final Rose” episode is former NFL player (National Football League), broadcaster, author and host of the YouTube sensation “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man,” Emmanuel Acho. The episode will air after “The Bachelor” finale on March 15. CAN I STEAL YOU FOR A MINUTE?

The love triangle between Shailene Woodley, Jodie Foster and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (NFL) continues. Last night during the Golden Globe Awards, Foster thanked Rodgers during her Best Supporting Actress acceptance speech for her performance in "The Mauritanian." This is her third Golden Globe Award. A few weeks ago, Rodgers thanked Foster in his acceptance speech for his league MVP award. (It was also the same speech he revealed that he was engaged). So why did Foster return the favor? She's a huge Packers fan. Rodgers' fiancée stars alongside Foster in "The Mauritanian." SO MUCH LOVE

Former L.A. Galaxy player (MLS - Major League Soccer) and current AC Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic is known for his big ego and outlandish comments. Well, he decided to go after one of the world’s most popular athletes, LeBron James. Ibrahimovic criticized James for his social justice efforts. James, who founded the iPromise School, responded by saying, "I would never shut up about things that are wrong…There’s no way I would ever just stick to sports, because I understand how powerful this platform and my voice is." 1. Driven to create change, Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union both have careers full of accolades but that’s not what landed them on this list. Their kids’ moments of bravery is what drove them to push for change. The actress and best-selling author and her husband, three-time NBA champion and Olympic superstar supported their daughter Zaya, 13, in her journey earlier this year as she came out as transgender. As parents they pushed other families to do the same - listen, learn and support your child and evolve with them on their journey. MAKING AN IMPACT

2. Tennis greats Steffi Graff and Andre Agassi started dating after the French Open in 1999 but their story goes back years before that. In 1992 both Graff and Agassi (who tried to pick up Graff the year before at the French Open) were winners at Wimbledon. It used to be tradition for the two winners of Wimbledon to dance with each other at the Wimbledon Champions’ Ball. But as luck would have it, that was the year they decided to cancel the dance due to “lukewarm receptions from modern players.” It all worked out in the end as the two married in 2001 and are still together. 3. We’re all for bad pickup lines and they’re even better when they work. After a very public relationship with golfer Tiger Woods, skier Lindsey Vonn was introduced to NHL (National Hockey League) player P.K. Subban at the ESPYs. It was at that event that he told a reporter "It's hotter outside than Lindsey Vonn looks today, which is pretty hot." Well, the line worked. The two, who started dating in 2018, were engaged in the summer of 2019. The couple’s passion for each other and their charitable efforts are something to admire. HEART EMOJI

4. Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe are the unofficial first couple of women’s sports. The two have been dating since 2016 and are a fixture in the Seattle sports scene. They’ve been featured on the cover of InStyle Magazine and were the first same-sex couple to grace the cover of ESPN’s Body Issue. The outspoken and seriously fashionable duo seem to have it all including a plethora of championships and safety deposit boxes for all their gold medals. They also have each other’s backs. 5. Together Julie and Zach Ertz have a Super Bowl championship, two World Cup victories and what do they have to prove it? A Visa commercial. The Philadelphia Eagles tight end (NFL) and the soccer star met at a Stanford baseball game in 2012 when he offered her sunflower seeds. They had their first date was at Chipotle and the rest is history. Married since 2017, together they too have bared it all for ESPN’s Body Issue. With both of them being at the pinnacles of their careers, they live the saying “absence makes the heart grow fonder.” They say they’re lucky to have three months a year in the same city.
